Fake Magazine Alert

I was wondering I few months’ back I bought a Taurus PT-1911 AR stainless steel, and I had a Rock Island 1911. I bought some MEC-Gar 8 Round Magazines, and noticed they don't exactly fit my Taurus. I am wondering if I should get rid of the MEC-Gar magazines, and what magazines would be appropriate for the Taurus?

I recently ordered 2 mags for a SW 6904, company called 'pro mag'. Complete junk, didn't work. Thankfully I am getting a partial refund.

How about these

Can anyone comment on the mags pictured below?

I linked the photos from a for-sale ad on another forum. I did not want to link the original post in case the mags are legit. I would hate to crap on someone's thread without a legitimate reason.

hmm knock off colt mags, with the rapid decline in the quality and reliability of colts' handguns they really don't need much to make them fail. a poor magazine could be the final straw. I dont trust any colt made past 1990 anyways, and with the disaster the anaconda project was, i've pretty much given up on colt. even the government finally threw them out. its sad to see 150 years of great gun making gone to the dogs, due to poor management. my suggestion, dont buy colt, for the money they ask, you can't afford not to shop around. keep in mind, when the 1911 was invented, planes still had 2 or 3 sets of wings. radio hadn't been invented. if you want state of the art, look at the FNC 45 or the Taurus OSS 24/7 tactical 45. move out of the biplane and try out the jet.

I didn't realize this was a Colt-bashing thread. I thought it was about knock-off magazines made by devious vendors selling "fake" Colt magazines. And from your assessment of Colt, you are living in the dark ages. Colt is currently producing some of the best pistols they have ever put out.

So, regardless of anyone's opinion of Colt quality, are there any comments on these most recent photos?

Real or Fake?

Thanks!

Posts 5, 6, and 7 should answer your question. From your blurry pictures, they look good to me. Compare them to 1911Tuner's photos and you can judge for yourself.

I see a lot of magazines and look carefully. Those look fine to me. They are consistent with current production details from the Checkmate OEM magazines.

I know I'm late to this thread - please forgive me as I just joined this fine website today. I purchased a pair of "Colt" magazines a little less than a year ago at a gun show in Denver. After reading this thread and looking at the stamps on the floor plate I think these may be fakes based on the deeper dip in the M stamp and the widened U in AUTO. Oddly enough, I haven't had an issue with these magazines except when feeding wadcutters through my less than polished 1911 - which has problems with SWC's anyway.

Not sure if they really are fakes but I thought I would share.

handloader357: I'm no expert at all, but just comparing your magazines to the others in this thread that are real, and the others that are fake, yours do look like they could be fakes. Not saying they are, just throwing that possibility out there.

"You get what you pay for" explains a lot. I picked up some junk magazines many years ago and they fell apart when they hit the ground during a "combat reload". I now only buy Wilson Combat 8-round magazines and they work great.
