I've been thinking about picking up one of those DSA SA-58 FALs for a bit now... was wondering if the price on those fine pieces of machinery might be dropping with the expiration of the AWB like the prices on ARs are probably going to drop? And, if not, it'll at least let me put a different stock on the thing. ;-)

I certainly have no inside info but I can't imagine why they would drop. The SA58 frankly has no rival...it's not like the assault weapons ban is keeping out any competition for an all-new-manufactured FAL.

I also wouldn't count on prices for "ARs" in general to drop...pre-bans, yes...probably to where post bans are at today...post-ban features will be less popular but no reason that the total package will go down.

The cost to manufacture a FAL will not change so the end price will not either. DSA will be able to use a surplus flash hider instead of a made in the USA part, but the overall number of made in the USA parts will remain the same, so manufacturing cost will not change. As far as the stock, you won't change that on a standard FAL because the gas return spring and housing is in the stock. If you buy the PARA FAL you will be able to use a folding stock, but I'd wait for the ban to sunset before buying.

I think you are confusing your laws. Do some research on the AWB and the ban from 1989 or 1988 dealing with importation.

The only thing that will be affected when the ban sunsets is the price of pre-ban rifles and magazines.

New manufature has nothing to do with the ban.

Besides that the price of ARs and FALS along with many other products made of steel will be rising shortly due to the shortage.
