On Gunbroker there are several sellers with M1 Carbine barrels for sale with FAL compensators welded on. They also appear to have the front sight welded on also. The overal length is 17 3/4" according to one seller.

1. Are these made from the sheared barrels I have seen advertised for +/-$25.00??

2. Has anyone bought and used one of these? How did it work?

The reason I ask is that they are hoping to get about $100 each on the and I think..know..I can build one myself.

Thanks in advance Guys.

Howdy,
These are demilled barrels that have had the FAL compensator welded on. I have noticed that some of this sellers barrels were new ( but demilled just the same) ones, I saw one was a undated Rock-ola and about cried. If you do decide to buy one, another thing to remember is this, if the barrel you decide on is in fact a new one that has never been installed on a receiver, its going to need the chamber reamed to get proper headspace. All USGI barrels came short chambered so that they could be reamed to fit the receiver/bolt.Any barrel you install will need to have the headspacing checked anyway just to be safe.
I hope this helps,
John

Thanks AZ....I had my suspicions. It is a shame about de-milling these barrels as if they were possessed by Demons or something. I would try one if the price was lower but, for right now a few dollars more will get a usable un-altered barrel. Thanks again.

Fulton barrels

OK, I ordered one of the Fulton armory de-milled barrels(Brand new Winchester barrels sheared off behind the front sight:fire:).
After working it down on the lathe we wound up with an honest 16 1/4" of barrel. Then we machined a shoulder on to that and turned down a piece of round stock so that it had an inside diameter of .330 and fit snug on the shoulder. Then we brazed that to the barrel, turned it to the profile of a regular carbine barrel and cut the whole thing to 18". Instead of milling a slot for the fron sight key I intend to simply attach the front sight with a set screw.
