FAL MAGS

Metric or inch? Metric you can get from Tapco at real good prices. I got a dozen used metric mags from them a couple months ago for $3.00 ea. plus shipping. They weren't new but worked fine, they also have new metric mags for slightly more $. Inch mags are a different story. I got two with my L1-A1 and have been looking for more ever since, at a reasonable price. A good price for inch would be around $10.00 ea., the only ones I've seen are $20.00 ea. Thats way too much for a used mag, IMHO.

I have found them all to be good! My favorite are parked with no witness holes. Ive got Imbel, StG-58, S.A., Issy, FN, Aluminium, and a bunch that i have no idea about. I have payed no more than ~$5-10 each. I believe that because they were all made to Mil-Spec (no aftermarket I know about) they are all good-Enjoy!

My favorites are the straight aluminums. Even worn, they are cool. And way stronger than they seem.

A small number of steels are very, very tight in my gun. I used to sorta hate mag changes and thought the FAL or I was bad in some way, till I realised this was the issue. Now that they are identified and pulled, it all good.

And for $6 each, who cares if you have to toss a few?

There are no brands, all surplus mags were made on FN supplied tooling. Steel mags are abundant, and very cheap. Austrian mags have witness holes, others countries mags do not. I like the aluminum mags also, but they've only recently come down in price enough to really stock up on.

I'm selling VG condition alum. mags at 10/$63 shipped, if you are interested....

I like steel Austrian mags. Steyr-built. I don't have feeding problems with any of my Steyrs, and they hold up well here in the desert.

DSA also converts Bren 30-rounders over to metric. That feeds smooth as silk as well.

Best,
John Bear Ross

I bought some new steel mags, but had problems with feeding with all of them. Replaced them with some well-used steel mags and fixed the problem.

Aluminum is lighter.

Presumably they are less sturdy, but I have yet to experience a problem. The steel mags are very heavy guage, so this is a serious weight savings. I haven't weighed, but it feels like an extra 5 rounds weight in steel.

Steel are about half the price, and if memory serves, alum's are about 1/3 the weight. Some of each is the only sensible way.....:D

And 10 mags fit a .30 cal ammo box perfect! I like to have at least an ammo box full of each country's.

To further Bwana Johns thoughts, 5 fit nicely inside of the 100 rd. M60 bandoleers, 3 of which fit nicely in a 50 cal. ammo can
