Well as the sunset approaches I think I will be celebrating its death by purchasing a new firearm. I want this gun to be tough, reliable, and have some weight to it. Accuracy isn't as important as its ability to function in all conditions. I've been looking at the Romak 3 and have never even handled one before. I've handled a few FALs before and they felt real nice.

So if you were given the choice between these two weapons which would you chose? Should I buy the slightly cheaper Romak 3 or spend a few hundred more dollars and buy a DSA FAL? How does the Romak 3 compare to the FAL in terms of reliability, value, and ease of field stripping?

I'd go for the FAL. Cheaper, non-corrosive surplus ammo, very cheap 20 round magazines (like $10 or less...the Romak 3 magazines are about $70 and only hold 10 rounds). FAL has more parts and accessories. Better placed bolt handle, safety, and release. Go for the FAL, such as the Austrian build DSA STG58.

I had good luck with my FrankenFAL until I blew it up in a reloading mishap. The more I think about what I'm going do with it / replace it with I keep thinking I want to just get another one or fix the one I have for the reasons listed above. The STG58 is preimum as far as FAL in the US go and if I had the means I would have bought one I saw recently.

I want a Russian SVD but I think I'll have to settle for the ROMAK 3 once I get the budget. I hear the ROMAK 3 is quite accurate out of the box, better than the FrankenFALs and enough better to justify the $200 price tag differance. So if you want accuracy as a primary concern I'd say ROMAK 3, if you just want a gun that always works, I'd say FAL.
