FALLACY: It's more accurate than me

LHB1, one of the first things I do with a gun--handgun or rifle--is start testing reloads for it until I have a load I'm certain is wresting all of the gun's accuracy potential.

After that, assuming that the weather is decent, the only variable is me.

Have to agree with P95Carry, though: age is a factor. I have some revolver targets from over 20 years ago with groups that were very close to what I could achieve off of a sandbag rest.

Today I can state with absolute certainty that all of my guns can outshoot me. And I'm not boasting about my guns. :(

LHB - apologies if I seemed to be ''talking down to you''! I sure wasn't trying to cast any aspertions on your experience. :)

Maybe it is that you come over as much more youthful than your 66 years! Certainly - it sounds like you are still shooting real well - whereas, my tired old eyes handicap me a lot these days, compared with when I was quite sharp.

Therefore, I guess I accept (have to really) that I certainly cannot usually shoot now to the level most of my guns can achieve. Fortunately tho - I still enjoy the heck out of it all.

Perhaps I picked a difficult concept to get across or don't express myself as well as I should. Yes, age does affect us in many ways. My pistol scores are not as good today as they were 10-12 years ago but I still enjoy the pursuit of perfection. And it is the pursuit that intrigues me. If it were simple, there would be no self-satisfaction or reward for achievement. I hope to still be shooting pistols with reasonable accuracy 20 years from now. See you guys on the 25 yd firing line.

Someone (Col Townsend Whelen, Warren Page, ?) once said "Only accurate rifles are interesting." Likewise only accurate pistols are interesting to me.

Good shooting and be safe.

LHB1, Either I have a reading comprehension problem, you are not expressing your idea well or maybe I just don't agree with the logic that you are presenting.

When I hear this statement I think "Duh". I can increase my over all accuracy by choosing the correct ammo, firearm and practice, practice, practice. I can improve an individual firearm's accuracy performance through accurizing work and ammo selection. The bottom line will always be that all of my firearms shoot more accurate without human intervention.

PAX, when woman are saying "Well, my husband got this for me and he said once I learn how to shoot he'll get me a different one." , doesn't it make you feel a little "yuk!"? I'm not promoting Femi-Nazism but c'mon.

"My brandX pistol is more accurate than I am" is an old, tired, over used and meaningless phrase. It should be buried and forgotten.

Yes, sometimes it has that effect. But I also see the guys' side of things, which is that she doesn't shoot much, probably never will shoot much, and whatever she's got in her hand right now was either dirt cheap or already in the safe. Why invest a hefty chunk of change in equipment she may not ever use much?

Not bad reasoning, as far as it goes. The thing is, you wouldn't expect someone to find out whether or not they enjoy hiking by taking them on a 10 mile hike wearing worn out, hand-me-down boots two sizes too large. People do something like this all the time with guns, and then are surprised that their newbie isn't more interested in shooting.

Before marriage, a man yearns for the woman he loves. After marriage, the 'Y' becomes silent.
