Time to buy some gun oil. I would like your thoughts on the newer generation of oils that would be your choice as a lubricant; NOT for corrosion resistance. Some of the newer synthetics, perhaps? What say you? Thanks...

I and many have used G96 Complete Gun Spray. I,ve used it for at least 20 years on commercial guns /ammo and military firearms shooting corrosive ammo. I do clean with appropriate solvents but all get a final wipe down with the G96. Everything has stayed rust free in central NY with it's hot, humid summers, wet spring and fall and feet deep snow sub zero winters. Works for me.

Get a quart of Mobil One synthetic 5W-20 or 30 or 0W-20 for about 7 bucks. Great stuff and the bottle will outlast you.

Mobil 1 0W-20

I have a buddy who has been in the lubricant sales business for 20 years. He says that contrary to the advertising, there is really nothing new in lubricants. Synthetic Oil has been around since the 1920s.

Tetra gun oil, I like it and several of my gunsmith buddies use it almost exclusively.

The last few years has been eezox for everything, but have recently switched to Hornaday One Shot dry lube. It's really slick stuff.
I still use the eezox for cleaning though

Over the last 50 years I've used about everything known to mankind and never did have a problem. Stuff gotten as a gift, 1/2 bottles of this, 1/4 cans of that, semi plugged up sprays of every kind from friends that didn't need them anymore. Oil from everywhere. Some ended up at hunting camp, some in assorted trucks, in packs, boxes, everywhere. I have no idea which firearms I used what on.

From the looks of this thread they all must have been good.

I finally ran out of most everything or lost it or something. I went to my standby, very light machine oil. Some used to call it sewing machine oil. It works as well as all the other stuff I've used. It's been around longer than my old lathe and that's been around longer than me........I'm too old to look around to see if there is some wonder oil I'm missing out on.

50/50 royal purple oil and royal purple atf mix, works amazing. I have used to ton of other things picked up at matches all over the place and so far like this one the best.

Last few years, I've been using Aeroshell Fluid 18, marketed as suitable for use with "small arms and automatic weapons", but it's primarily a lubricant found in aerospace markets. I've never seen it anywhere else. It's mainly a refined, thin mineral oil with just a tad bit of anti-corrosion additives...nothing fancy but I bought a gallon to use with precision measurement tools because Starrett bends you over for a tiny bottle of their stuff. Its a similar oil to precision machine/tool/sewing machine oil.

To match it, I run Shell Aeroshell 33MS for anything needing grease. 5% molyndenum disulfide and lithium complex, slick as snot. No magic marketing or fancy additives. Just a strict grease used in the aerospace sector. The grease is $20 for a tube and $40 for a gallon of the oil. It's a lot up front but cheaper than paying $5-10 for tiny 1-4oz bottles.

I'd just as happily slather motor oil on the gun, or dig into my brother's big tub of minty froglube. I find the act of actually keeping a gun lubed is more important than the slight gains of one brand over another. Usually when you market an industrial or aerospace lubricant, there are 3rd party lab tests using standardized tests for wear, abrasion, etc. You rarely see that level of scrutiny or controlled tests with weapons lubes so it makes me wonder sometimes if the marketing borders on hype.

For my ARs I like FrogLube paste

For the rest Slip2000 EWL or Fireclean

Anything other than Breakfree CLP or Remoil
