I saw a youtube where someone chronoed that Turkish ammo and it was over 3,000 fps with a 150 grain bullet ,

They may have swapped the bullets... I've lost track of how many times it's been mentioned. I'm not saying it won't work, but I haven't tried it. IIRC, I read somewhere that it's doing over 3000 with the old 196-198gr... why it kicks so hard.

I find the bullets are a bit undersized, so they have a low amount of neck tension (you could push the bullet deeper by hand). Not sure if this is due to my Lee sizing dies or PPU brass. It doesn't seem to have an effect on the target though :)
What was your aiming point during the ladder test ?

6 o'clock hold, such that my front post was "touching" the bottom of the black circle on the target. Rear sight was adjusted to minimum elevation, which I think is 200m if memory serves.

All shots had the same point of aim and no adjustment made during the course of fire.

I think on any of these old rifles, the bore should be slugged or cerrosafed to see what you REALLY have!

My 8x57 is marked jr (.318"), but I cerrosafed the bore and found it to be .321", so I load it with .323" bullets and it's quite accurate...

I've taken everything from moose and blk. bear, on down to numerous deer with this load...

DM that's an excellent group how long have you owned your krieghoff ?

DM, that pic “touches” me.
As a hunter, pilot, retired game warden; That is the stuff of my dreams.

Notice in my avatar, we are almost dressed alike....
Camo and blue jeans.... shades of good time past...

I used the raft to cross the river, we took 4 nice bulls that trip... Two other guys did raft the river and they got one moose doing that...

Shot bbls are 16ga., but I have inserts so I can shoot 20's if I want... Mostly I just shoot 16's though, they are only a couple bucks more a box...

DM I have a pre war 9.3x74 drilling with a 16 gauge shot barrel . I don't shoot it or hunt it ,, just a collection piece

Re: added carharts;
Me too. I grabbed the jeans and jacket to retrieve the deer.
I was wearing pajamas when I shot it...

I am curious how many 8x57 fans are out there and what's your favorite hand load? Mine is a 200 grain nosler partition stoked by 46.0 of 4064 for Elk or Bear or a 160 barnes with 49.0 grains of 4064 for deer.
I don't have an 8x57mm rifle, but have an 8x60mm which is much the same. (Look it up in CotW; it's a rule beater.) Haven't fully explored the upper end, but it shoots 200 grain bullets at 2350 anyway (no doubt more than that) and seems quite mild. FN made '98 Mauser design action, Husqvarna barrel and end product.

That 8x60, at first thought, sounds like it should land right between 8x57JS and 8mm-06. I haven't noticed dies and brass retailed for it.

The 200NP load I use in my 8x57 above, I chrono'ed at 2,550 fps, it shoots very good and my gun handles it just fine, it's what I use for all of my hunting.

I have had good accuracy with the sierra 175 out of my k98 and tikka 8x57's but haven't shot any game with it yet

...8x57 fans are out there and what's your favorite hand load?....
In my sporterized K98 8mm, I load 170 SST over 38 gn 8208xbr for about 2200 fps.
Haven't tried many loads, but that's the best of the bunch for accuracy & its a mild load.

I shot a nice mule deer buck with the 170 sst at 2,700 fps ,,49 grains of Varget ,, a 325 yard shot, buck dropped on the shot , the bullet shed half its weight
