I started the first poll in what eventually became a series of polls on November 30th, 2023. The first 4 polls I created did not have a close date. I did come back later and ask the mods to close the polls but not sure if that happened or not. Regardless, this thread contains the results of those polls (as of the date on the start of this thread). A few takeaways, for me anyways (1) Impressive how the 6.5 Swede was significantly more popular on this forum than the 6.5 Creedmoor. (2) Does anybody really like 338 caliber? It's forum popularity as a whole seemed to attract the least amount of overall participation and votes. (3) There are so many 224 options that this forum's max allowed number of poll choices was met. (4) The 7mm-08 had 1 more vote than the 7mm Mauser. That one cut me a little :)

In the end, this was just a fun way to see what everyone on this forum liked best.

What was the total number of votes for each poll? We have 231,562 members at THR at time of posting. With less than 20 responses in the top 3 places for the 338, and only 145 responses in the top 3 for the most popular podium, eh... I'm not sure anything meaningful can be drawn, even within the context of winnowing "most popular subjective preference among the voluntary respondents on a voluntary firearms discussion forum with a mean age _____ years above the age of majority"...

Total votes:

8mm - 51
7mm - 134
30 - 174
25 - 104
6mm - 81
6.5mm - 97
277 - 47
35 - 46
338 - 25
224 - 68

Of that 231,562 member count, how many of those are "active"? Most other forums I participate in have a total count and an active count. Of the active count, how many would be interested in what the poll was asking? Does it matter? Who cares?! Like I said, it was just something fun.

Not a lot of surprises for me, still a lot of fun to participate in. OP, don't feel bad about the 7mm-08 having as much of a following as the 7x57, 7mm-08 is just the next evolutionary step of the same idea. My experience with 7x57 is what led me to 7mm-08. Great cartridges both.

For me it'd be because I found a die set for 10 dollars at a thrift store, complete with shell holder.

Still dont got a rifle for it though, but it uses the same bullets as 7mm Rem Mag which was the second rifle caliber i reloaded for actually. Not much with it now but I still got the stuff for it. Never used the actual powder, instead was doing 4198 loads making target practice loadings. But I have some 7828

I can't begin to explain how often a cheap or free set of dies has sent me on a buy or build project...

Not counting dies that a family member passed unto me, it's only happened to me twice. The other one was a set of 22-250 dies, but they are seized up for some reason.

But I haven't commenced the Buy or build aspect yet.
