I just started reading The Lost Classics of Jack O'Connor and really like it. What are some of your favorite O'Connor books?

the only one I've read is The Complete Book of Shooting...

I guess I need to read some more !

The Art of Hunting Big Game in North America, 1967. Lots of good, practical information and classic O'Connor storytelling. Dedicated to Prince Pahlavi of Iran (ah, the good old days)!

+1 for The Hunting Rifle, The "Complete book of Rifles and shotguns" is also good. I've only been able to find Jack O' Conner's books on Amazon; they all seem to be out of print. If anyone knows another source; please share

I've never read any of his books but I once wrote him a letter. He must have been writing for a periodical.

I was surprised when I got a personal response from him.

I wish I had saved his letter, now.

north american sheep hunting was the man's forte. he wrote several books on this subject.

he was often called "the dean of american riflemen", as he worked as a college professor. his writing style shows this.

+1 on the Art of Hunting Big Game in North America. I used to read that every fall when I was about 20. Now that I'm sixty, I just just don't read that much anymore. He was a wonderful story teller, told of his mistakes as well as his successes.
