Getting away from the IWB for a moment...

What's your favorite? Do you find that any variables other than cant affect concealability?

If you are sold on Plastic, I really like the Fobus Paddle for my HK usp compact. It holds the gun tighter to my side than did my UM Kydex Paddle. I have tried the blade-tech injection molded kydex for my 1911, but it lacks cant, and is too long for me to conceal under a t-shirt.

With the fobus, you're only out $20 if you decide you don't like it.

Hope that helps a bit.

Not Kydex but plastic, but I too like the FOBUS paddle for my G17. Granted, I have not tried many others, but then again I haven't felt the need to do so. The FOBUS paddle is comfortable, durable and secure. I've been using it as my primary carry system for more than a year now with no issues.

I like the Blade-Tech standard belt holster (not the cheap injection molded one). A fine combination of good concealability and speed. I prefer the belt loops and shims over the Tec-Loc.

I've been using the FBI cant, which seems to work well on and behind the hip. Straight cant requires different concealment methods, and seems to be more for on and in front of the hip.

If this is for a 1911 (or USP, natch) fire me an e-mail and you can try mine.

Another vote for the standard Blade Tech holsters. They are not cheap, but I like them best.

I am a huge fan of my Fobus Paddle holster. I carry a SigPro in it all the time. Cheap, works fine, stuck like hell in the pants to avoid that draw the gun get a holster problem.

Hey Morgan,

I'll do that. You're welcome to try out my Comp-Tac IWB, but it's for a Commander and I think your 1911 is a Gov't. Thanks!

Vote for Fobus

I also vote for the Fobus paddle hostler. Inexpensive, good fit and quick. I have uncle Mikes but the screws work loose. Though they were very fast in replacing them. :)

I had a Comp-Tac paddle slide holster with FBI cant for my Springfield XD subcompact. It was a great holster for wearing around the farm or at the range but it didn't conceal worth a damn.

Hmmm... So far I'm the only one who didn't like the Fobus? I even tried it twice... bought once and sold because I didn't like it. Then I thought I'd try it again, then decided for sure I didn't like it!

Waiting on a Sidearmor belt slide adjustable cant. So far I love the IWB by Sidearmor.

Uncle Mike's and the non-Kydex Fobus paddles are nice, inexpensive holsters which I'll use.

-I don't recommend the UM paddle version. I've broken a paddle taking it on & off. The paddle was too stiff and hard to get on & off. The Fobus paddles are more comfortable and easier to get on & off, yet are fairly secure once on. The Uncle Mike's belt loop versions are OK, though, but are vertical only, which is not a big deal.

-Galco also makes a holster, similar to Kydex, but I've yet to try one and only one store in my area is carrying them. They claim their plastic material is better than Kydex.

My favorites are Safariland 0701, 0702, or 0703 holsters. They have a mechanical means of retention for these holsters.

Good luck. Let us know what you end up getting!

The Fist 7K is my favorite. It is a leather belt slide design that is made from thin kydex. They are actually stitched like leather holsters. Not quite as fast as my UM, G-Code or Blade Tech but they conceal much better.

I don't like Kydex for OWB CCW. I definately don't like the Fobus. It's like a big tumor on your side or something. I prefer a good leather holster for OWB CCW that hugs the gun to your side with a little cant to it. I haven't found something like that in kydex.

Uh, isn't the Fist K7 an IWB ?

Yes, the K7 is an IWB and one of my favorites. The 7K is a standard #7 drop front basic made from kydex instead of leather. Any of their leather designs can be made from kydex but they don't have them all listed on their website. They stitch the kydex just like the leather. It works out very well.

I've been using the DeSantis "The Jackal" for a couple of years now. It's < $25. at www.natchezss.com. It's a kydex paddle and keeps the gun close to the body for concealment. I like the ease of a paddle as opposed to the hassle of a belt slide holster.
