I'm not saying you deliver pizzas for a living-- although some of you might-- but if you do, what is or what would be your favorite carry piece?

Think about it......"what handgun would I want while delivering pizzas all night?"

Ruger super redhawk in 44 mag

Kidding. I'd probably wear a windbreaker and pocket carry a small gun, like the kel-tec P3AT or a makarov or something. That way it's right there, and if you get the heebie jeebies about a place, you can put your hand in your pocket and be ready.

Outstanding topic. I've been held up twice while delivering pizza. It's been awhile, but I got a Ruger SP101 when they first came out, in .38. I kept it in the pizza bag.
A revolver might be best because it's just ready to go. Pizza predators have a habit of sneaking up on ya so keep your "yellow lights" on.

Guy I used to work with was a "pizza slinger". His carry piece was a mil-spec Springy 1911-A1.

Richard Davis carried a sawed-off shotgun. Kept it in an empty box on top of the real pizzas he was delivering.

Saved his life once, too. Pretty sure the guy he shot died.

DonGlock26 almost has it right. I would want a pair of hammerless S&W snubbies, and might even consider .32 magnums so as to get one extra shot from each.

Think about it, you are not going to be able to access your right (or left) jacket pocket each and every time, so having two makes for good insurance in my book.

Oh yeah, a Surefire G2 and a nasty folding knife wouldn't hurt either.

I'd take my 6" bbl. S&W Model 27 Wheelgun. Fierce looking gun. God help the BGs and bad tippers!

I delivered for a few years. In hot weather, with just an untucked t-shirt, it was a S+W 640 .357 or a Kahr K40. IWB. When the weather was cooler, the 640 in jacket pocket, sometimes with the Kahr IWB as well.

I've been a cop for close to twenty years. I would not deliver pizza. That or an all night convenience store clerk. you are out there by YOURSELF. I can yell on the radio and it will rain blue for the next 20 minutes. They have my respect.

G26 with 147 gr. JHPs.

Though I am looking to move on up the .45. Whether in 1911 or Sig 220 I am as yet undecided.

Or maybe a Gabbet-Fairfax in .50. :D

DISCLAIMER:
Of course I may not be a delivery guy and I may not even be carrying a weapon.

I'm currently laid off and delivering pizza to help bridge the gap. I don't know how people do it unarmed cause I don't like it much even with the Taurus .38 in the pocket. It is nice to pocket carry because I can put my hand on it and be ready to go. I also keep an off body Makarov for backup.

Normally I carry Colt Defender but I don't have a tuckable holster and guess what... I have to tuck in my shirt.

I thought I was gonna need that taurus the other night but I got out of there without any trouble.

Well, I do not deliver Pizza....

But I prowl the night alone at a weekly hotel in Vegas running off the 'suspicious' traffic(drug dealer's, thieves and ho's). Babysitting grown adults that should know better. And then there are the drunks, the stoned, the homeless, the hopeless and those with major attitude.
I carry a Colt CCO .45 and I think it'd do fine for late night pizza deliveries too, but I might not wear the body armor, radio and ASP baton w Taclite for pizza deliveries. A decent folder, pepper spray, cell phone and several spare mags would accompany me(its my normal off duty load anyway). I'd change the ASP Taclite for a small Surefire.
Definately...keep your eyes open, NO matter what you do and where you are...you can go from 'all is well' to 'life threatening danger' in a heartbeat anyplace at anytime. Awareness is is more important than what caliber gun you have, and no matter what you have learn to use it well, subconsciously, close range and fast.
Have layers too. Pepperspray and a blinding light for non lethal options.
And watch out for groups of young men no matter what the skin color, the hyena method of manly fighting(where the macho youths gang up on the one lone 'coward') seems to be SOP.
Trust your gut/intuition and look for threats and avenues of retreat constantly....do not hesitate to call the Police for percieved suspicious behavior!
Some ideas.

I had a friend who was a cop and was running for Sheriff. He was opposed to CCW for civilians and said, "You don't know what it's like out there."

My response was, "You don't know what it's like out there -- because you're IN there.

"IN there, you have a gun and a radio. OUT there, we're unarmed and have no way to call for help.

"IN there, if you call, every cop within twenty miles will come. OUT there, IF we can call for help, a cop might come.

"IN there, if a bad guy kills you, every cop will hunt that guy forever -- and probably kill him when they find him. OUT there, if someone kills me and you don't catch him soon, he's probably home free."

My friend became a strong supporter of the right to bear arms.

Well, I am partial to the Glock 19, or maybe a full size 1911, but the Webley Electric would be an interesting sidearm.;)

Great answers, everyone. Thanks.

As someone else mentioned, I think a Ruger sp 101 would be just about perfect.
