So as not to hijack another thread, I am posting this to learn of forum members' experiences with SF Bay FFLs for transfer of firearms not purchased in their shops.

I have been using American Outdoor Sport Equipment in Livermore where I purchased and then sold my Ruger MK512, but he is looking to retire and close down the shop. I have used one on Third street in Walnut Creek, but that experience was not entirely flush with warm fuzzies.

Any others?

Not in san francisco, but...

City arms, in Pacifica. real nice guys working there, and i've never had any problems. i've bought my sks from them, and had them transfer my k-31. transfer fee is $50 if i recall.

I'm making my list.

Which city is High Bridge? SF? If so, probably no longer around. Last I heard there was one shop and it is either closing or gone.

By the way, you mention Portland as rainy. How rainy? How are Aurora and Canby as possible locations for poor, non-YUPPIE Californian retirees who will need to continue working for about $30,000/yr? McMinnville?

I could really get off on the instant check and take it home the same day that Oregon offers.

yes, it was in SF. Sorry i'm probably a bit out of date, I left the Bay Area about 3 years ago. Don't miss it one teeny iota, not just because of the lousy gun laws, more the generally hilariously expensive, harried, unparkable quality of life there. No Cow Palace gunshows anymore too I bet ?

Portlands getting a bit pricey, but the surrounding towns like Canby, Salem etc are very livable indeed, the going is easy, people are unnerving polite, ( really, after SF, it really catches you off guard ), when it rains, it does so enthusiastically, but I'm from England originally so I'm not perturbed by a light shower now and then...summers are glorious. And it is nice to go into a gunstore, of which there are several, and walk out with something the same day...Oh and there's paperless, dealerless FTF transactions too, and supressors....machine guns....AOW's...SBR's...shall issue CCWs....I left SF with 3 pistols..up to about 26 now, plus assorted rifles.....

sorensen440,

I've done at least half my FFL and other purchases through American Outdoor Sport Supply, but the owner told me he wants to close down and move. I still list him when I make my entry in the Shooting USA gun a month contest.

I'll have to look up Ripon.

Irvington Arms

Does Irvington Arms carry firearms in the store or do they just have supplies? I realize that it sounds like a stupid question, but I already went to two gun shops and they only carried supplies.

I turn 21 in two months and would like to purchase a handgun for range purposes.

+1 for Irvington Arms.

They sell firearms and the usual related accessories.

They are also good people to deal with if your doing transfers.

He may close down and move but he has also been talking about that for years.

Oh and +1 for irvington arms I picked up a lower there last month

I dropped by Irvington Arms about a month ago just to check out based on the recommendations. They don't seem to have much new stock, maybe a bit pricey on the used firearms? Do they primarily do orders?

What is their transfer policy and fee?

fees: i just did a handgun private party transfer today and they charged $35.

for an FFL transfer, they charged $50 plus DROS.

while they do not have a huge display, they can get you pretty much anything you want within a few days for a very decent price.

Another motion for Irvington Arms

Not the closest for me down in San Jose/Campbell, but a hell of a nice guy up there.

I give another vote to Irvington Arms, they're just a mile from my house. :)
They don't keep much in stock, likely to minimize overhead, but they do give good prices on orders.
I've bought a pistol and some powder and bullets from American Outdoors in Livermore because they're close to my work, but the old Japanese guy has been saying since 2003 that he's planning to retire.
