FBI Ditches .40 for 9mm

^^Exactly^^
we had small framed folks do very well with the 40 you know we practiced often
not once a year as most LEO's do, we had range time every month and I had
my unit spend time every week dry fire exercises and everyone of us could
shoot just fine even a small female that was left handed could shoot and pass
both basic and ppc courses.
I just don't get it ???

My brother and I had his wife out shooting this afternoon. She hadn't fired a pistol in maybe 30 years. Shot Glock 19 and 23 and did very well with both. She couldn't tell the difference in recoil.

Blacksmoke, I don't come here for bigotry and misogyny masquerading as gun talk. I'd appreciate it if you did that somewhere else. God knows there are enough places on the Internet for it.
and I don't come here to see people attempt to silence others because of their hurt feelings...Lord knows there are plenty of other places on the Internet where you can do that. Agree or disagree, offensive to you or not, the man has a right to speak his thoughts.

Would not a .45 swc be "incredibly consistent" and still be bigger than a 9mm (and easily meet the penetration minimum as well as not be +p?)

To meet 12 inches with a hard cast swc at even a sedate 800 fps is not difficult. And since it is 'expanded' from the moment of impact it might very well destroy more by volume than any 9mm.

The 9mm will expand greater than .451" or .452".

I am 6'2" 235 or so but I have relatively small hands.
I went Saturday and shot quite a bit of .40 in my Beretta Brigadier as well as my CZ 75BD Police. I shoot the CZ much better because, I think, the grip is not as "fat" so it just feels better to my hands. I am faster and more accurate with the 9mm. The Beretta's de-cocker is also poorly placed for me. These are probably just my own preferences but the Beretta is the only 40 I own so I can't draw much comparison with other models. I own 30+ 9mm pistols.

How many personnel does the FBI have that carry a sidearm? How many times last year did an FBI agent fire his sidearm at a criminal? I am sure that is easily obtained information but the point is that the caliber they are using really isn't a big issue since I doubt 1/10th of 1% actually fired a shot last year.

In an agency that big there will certainly be people with different size hands and different sized feet. Do they specify a certain type of shoe? Surely they could have a list of say three gun models with three different calibers from which their agents can choose. Big hands, little hands, red fish, blue fish.

I represent a company that is changing all of their salesmen company cars to Honda Accords from Ford F-150's. Some accountant decided the Accord would be cheaper to operate and the sales people don't really NEED a truck. They are even replacing some trucks that are less than a year old so that everyone will have the same vehicle. 5'4" 118 pound woman and 6'4" 255 pound man...same car.

I never really put much stock in what any government agency used or didn't use and formed my own conclusions on what I prefer to carry.

I have 2 .40s and 3 9mms. I carry them both and trust both. I prefer the 9mm for not having the blast and report of the .40 as well as the price per round. I prefer the .40 for having a little more zip for critters i might encounter woods walking and that it is almost always on the shelves even when their is an ammo drought.

I have a compact .40 on my hip as I type, but I was bumming around town with nothing more than a six shot 9mm yesterday.

While I probably prefer a larger bore over a mid-bore for a carry piece, going back to the 9mm makes since when it comes to dollars and cents of an agency that has access to long arms should the need arise. I also don't disparage anyone for preferring the 9mm over the 40 in terms of shootability. The 40 is flashy and loud and bucks quite a bit. Had I kind of committed to it a couple years ago, I would have probably given up on it had I not stuck with shooting often. I could see it being an issue for an agency that does not require the agent to do a great deal of shooting.

I love whenever the switch away from 10mm comes up and people go, "Oh, it was because of them women and the gays!"

Right, because there were so many in the FBI when they switched away from 10mm.

I will bet you anything it had to do with people who were already bad shots (who were probably, like the FBI at the time, mostly straight, white males) having their faults amplified by a semi-auto that had something other than a fixed barrel. Not willing to swallow their pride, they blamed the anonymous complaints on women and gay people who were supposedly worse shooters based on their gender and sexual identity. Because "limp-wristing". Right.

Beautiful, let's keep this rumor going.
