Just saw on the news that the rider on the appropriations bill made it through. So now the FBI must destroy records from background checks within 24 hrs. They had the LA county sheriff on complainig that this is an injustice. Currently they have 90 days to destroy them. I have a feeling no one checks so they keep them however long they want anyway. I don't know why this is a big deal as they can still trace guns like they always have.

They are but currently they have 90 days. I don't think I have the whole story and am eager to here from someone who does. The news appeared to focus on the decresse in time the FBI can keep the records. It also stated but not in this way that the FBI gives "proceeds" to about 300 people a year that they shouldn't and that is why the need the extra time after the fact to go hunt those people down and get the guns back.

They had Wayne of NRA fame on and basically saying the FBI has no more right to keep a list of people who own guns than people who go to church or read the paper, obviously refering to some other admendments.

I have a feeling the rider was more inclusive, maybe it included getting rid of all the old bound books and 4473 from dealers no longer in buisness or somethin.

Impossible to force an bureaucrat agency to do something that it doesn't want to do. The information will simply be "reconfigured" into a new, slightly different format; and the original record destroyed...voila, they've complied with the law. Yet the information is still available for use, under a different (untrackable) database, only available internally. These debates about records retention are diversionary in nature.

youve got to be kidding...destroy information?maybe the paperwork but there is always going to be ELECTRONIC files.just like the one that"gun registration" doesnt exist and never did.rrrriiight.

What does it matter they know what you own and what you purchased anyways. Espically if its a handgun the local pd knows how many i own even though there not supposed too.. the comment was made last one i purchased jezz you own a lot of handguns.. Counting this was first on i bought since i moved into this county how did they know?

Im fully willing to accept that this isnt going to make a bit of difference one way or the other. But, it sure is a step in the right direction. I cant remember the last time ANYTHING pro-gun/RKBA was passed. Its definatly a good sign.

That's because MI requires handgun registration. :barf: It has nothing to do with the Feds.

true we do but they also tell you that only state police have acces to that i have questioned .. and reason staties have acces is for stole guns stuff ..yeah right i dont trust non of um :)

The whole detroit thing has screwed up by guns for us here espically handguns. permits are supposed to be issued same day but you live in wayne county(which detroit is in ) good luck.. for me only used to take 3 days but for first tiem buys good luck on a week or 2

CCW does change that though now it walk into store and buy after you wait 6-8 months to get your permit again anther detroit deal every other county it with in 45 days

Several years ago, I went to a Pasadena City Council Meeting. It was an attempt to ban the Sale, Manufacture, or Possession of Ammunition within Pasadena’s city limits. I listened to the council-critters banter back and forth, the merits of this monumental safety measure. Then, Chris Holden (a council member and brother or something to Nate Holden) got up to speak. He said something like…This ordinance will do nothing to stop or slow the tide of crime in this city, but we need to do something, and this is a good first step.

You said...

I refuse to except this type of an argument from an anti gun critter or a pro gun person.

How can it be a step in the right direction if it isn’t going to make a bit of difference? A step in the right direction would be a step that advances the cause of the RKBA/pro gun agenda. :)

Just my 7 cents worth

Your right, lets just hold out until they repeal the NFA and GCA. Nothing less is worth any time. But, dont hold your breath. ;)

Other than the fact that it is not the government's role or right to know what firearms I own, why are my tax dollars being spent to support an infrastructure which is not supposed to be doing this?
