I was given approximately 500 pieces of federal brass.
They are all once fired. They all had the green primer sealant on them before cleaning. Green sealant gone after depriming and tumbling.
I don't know if this brass is Federal match brass or american eagle brass.
Is there any difference between the 2 or do they use the same cases?
If there is a difference how can you tell?

TIA

You can compare weights and/or volume weight to have an idea if they are same. But have them all in the same state of prep. You want them as close to identical in dimensions as you can for an accurate comparison.

Unless Federal has changed the primer sealant very recently, current Federal GMM brass has a blue primer sealant not green. The cases weigh (with a fired primer in the case) in at 183-184 grains, very consistent and makes very accurate reloaded ammo. I have a lot of this newer brass and have been using Federal 308 brass for 40 years. This newer brass is much better brass than the older 308 brass that was a bit soft.

Take a fired primer and put it in your scale pan and weigh some of the cases. I'lll bet they're the newer Federal GMM brass.

I have a bunch of newer federal brass as well. No issues here. Shoots just as well as most others, and I have not noticed it being soft or anything like that.

Sitting here looking at several boxes of Federal GMM .308 Winchester ammunition and while hard to see the primer sealant looks to be Blue and I want to say this stuff is maybe 7 years old. I see no difference in the cartridge head stamp markings between other Federal .308 Winchester cartridges and the GMM cartridges. This past summer I compared several cases from several manufacturers. With sample lots of ten cases on average the Federal GMM brass was 174.7 grains (ten case average) and more important was the Federal Brass had a standard deviation of 0.334 grains making it the lowest standard deviation in the lot. All brass was cleaned, trimmer and sized identical. Good stuff! As to being able to distinguish Federal GMM brass from other Federal brass? Beats me. :)
