I know Federal Gold Medal Match (GMM) use Sierra Match King bullets.

Do any of you awesome THR inmates know what type powder and charge weight they use for 168 and 175 grain cartridges..? Do you guys/gals know what primers are used..??

Thanks in advance. Any responses would be appreciated.....

I have no idea what federal uses but I have heard that the Marine Corps is using 42grs. of RL-15. I tried it for my Remington ADL Varmint for 168gr SMK's and it is an excellent load.

Based on my rifle its going to be ~43.5gr of IMR 4064 for the 168gr SMK. My rifle shoots smaller groups with ~ 1gr less powder though. YMMV. As always, start at min and work up.

First you can not duplicate the load.
They use non canister grades of powder, and ATK suggests RL15 variant.

What you can do....

#1 Chrono some FGM in your flavor.
#2 Work up a load to match that with the Sierra 168 or Nosler 168 OTM bullets. Use RL15 and Fed 210M primers. Federal brass sucks!

Thanks ofr all th responses. I guess I am gona try RL15. And yes, I am not a fan of Federal cases either. Lucky for me at the range the other day, I found about 200 once fired Hornady Match .308 cases. I figured they were once fired cuz the new/empty boxes were right next to em..

I pulled one today and it measured out to be 43.6gr of something.

It's an extruded powder, with the grains being shorter in length than IMR4890. In addition to short length, it lacked that green coating that makes Varget green, so it's not Varget.

Only other stuff I have to compare it with are H335, which it very obviously isn't, and IMR3031, which isn't it either.

Who cares what Federal uses to make it? It's never going to be as good as what a handloader can accomplish. I've always been puzzled by a hand loader who wants to duplicate what the factory uses.

You're having a custom-tailored suit made. Don't try to make it look like an off-the-rack suit from JC Penney's.

My favorite long-range 175 gr SMK load is 43.5 gr of Varget, giving me 2650 fps from a 26" barrel. But I've had success with IMR 4895 as well.

Oh, I do use Federal GM brass. The stuff from many years back seems better quality than what they make today, but I'm not unhappy with it.
