I saw some Federal .40 s&w ammo at the big box store today:
Federal Champion 100 round vaule pack, 180 gr fmj for $26.98

Has anyone had success with this ammo in the Ruger pistols (specifically the sr40 or sr40c)?

And why does it say "Not for law enforcement use" on the box?

Thanks-

It should work fine.

It says that because it is loaded to a price point to be competative with other "big box" price point ammo.

As such, it doesn't have sealed primers, low-flash powder, and other stuff the higher priced Federal SD ammo has.

But for plinking & practice it is just fine.

My guess is the Federal Champion round is Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) and not Hollow Point (HP) that is preferred by law enforcement.

It is training ammunition.

Since I don't reload for the .40 S&W, I shoot a lot of the bulk Federal stuff .
My Beretta 96 loves the rounds and they are really quite accurate.

I shoot that stuff all the time, perfectly good ammo. Worked great in my SR40c.
