Federal has a 3" 410 shotshell (item PD413JGE 4BK) that per their specs is loaded with 9 pieces of #4 buckshot / 0.24" diameter pellets.

That diameter shot is too big to fit even two pellets side by side in a 410 bore, yet having them in a single file row doesn't seem right either. I've been trying to figure out how they stacked the pellets or if Federal made some special sort of shotcup.

Can anyone share a drawing or a picture of how the pellets are stacked??

From what I've read on the internet it seems like it patterns decently when fired from a real shotgun, that is a 18-1/2" or longer non-rifled barrel.

I just looked at one with a strong light shining thru it. They are stacked in sort of a single file row. Not exactly straight, they kinda zig-zag up the length of the shell.
Hope this helps...

The 3-inch #4 buck load works best from a full choke(Foxes, coyotes, and other chicken house raiders),but works rather well for a close range anti-home invader round from an 18.5 inch cylinder bore barrel.

In fact I use it as the chambered load for the DFG Mk-1 and DFG Mk-2 (Mossberg 500E's)

The 2-1/2 inch Federal '000' buck will give the best results from a cylinder bore barrel, and is well worth a look (As are the Remington '00' "Ultimate HD " loads)

Both the Federal and remington loads carry four pellets each ('000' is rated for 1200fps and the Remington shell is rated for 1300fps)

Witnessed my brother in law smoke a coyote with the same shell at 35yds. The .410 earned some respect from me that day.

The Federal 3" the OP was asking about. I'm not sure if it was the same exact round but it was made by Federal, was 3" and was buckshot. I was very impressed by it.
