I was one of the few who had problems with older FC marked brass in glock back in the day and have since stuck with Winchester , RP and FEDERAL marked "in that order"

my question is , I just paid $29 shipped for 500 .40S&W 1x sorted, SS cleaned , deprimed and sized FEDERAL marked cases.

BUT I got them today and they are marked FC 14 and a few with 13 not "Federal" ...

These should be gtg right ? I'm guessing the 14 and the few that say 13 are all newer year brass without the kaboom effect ?

Should not be a problem. I prefer the Mil brass over civilian since in most cases it's heavier. Your correct with the 13/14 being the year.

You can get a Kaboom effect on any brass if not loaded correctly.

sweet, thanks, just wanted to make sure. haven't shot or owned glock in along time "currently using sig" but still wanted to make sure was safe to use.

I use all variations of Federal head stamps for handgun, .40 cal. also. Currently I have several thousand of them, and have been loading for decades with everything Federal, and have never had problems of any sort, and I run mine full tilt all the time.

As for bottle neck brass, I'm trying to regain my trust in Federal following a blown primer pocket seal, something I've never experienced with any head stamp before.

I never got the kaboom effect but back in late 90s after first use through glock my cases were splitting and bulging. After arguing with the place i bought them from i think i got them at midwayusa. who were claiming i was loading too hot i ended up sending the fired and the rest of the batch which was still new and unused back to federal. I got back twice as many brass as i sent in and a letter. The brass i returned to federal was marked FC they sent back brass marked FEDERAL

The FC 13 and FC 14 are military contract brass. Most of what I get from the Coast Guard shooting on our range is FC 10 headstamped .40 S&W brass, and since they're shooting Sigs, it comes out without any belly problems.

Hope this helps.

after checking, these come out the same weight and thickness as brand new winchester .40 brass I got from graf and sons "grafs" so I'm good to go.

Got 620 xtreme plated 180gr hp's and 500 pulled 180 federal HST. And as soon as I decide how much of which I want to put into the cases I'll set the dies and get to work.

Thanks all for the help-out

Check for crimped primer pockets.

I don't know nothing about military headstamp .40 cases.

But most mil-spec brass has crimped primer pockets that will have to be removed.

Again, may not apply to .40 brass, but most GI contract brass have crimped primer pockets.

The .40 S&W government contract brass doesn't have crimped primers. Probably because they don't have any full automatic .40 caliber firearms. I've found the FC 10 brass to weigh within a grain from case to case, and I've been using them to swage .44 and .45 caliber bullets out of.

Hope this helps.

I know gunsmith John Linebaugh considers Federal brass the absolute finest available for high pressure .45 Colt loads. This includes the REAL mud stomper loads built for 5 shot conversions I don't know if there are differences in the brass composition between calibers, but I would think Federal would maintain the same quality throughout.

Last year, at my BIL range, we picked up a couple hundred 40 S&W with FC 12. They were from a Coast Guard unit doing their annual qualifying.

The primer cups had a crimped on them.
