Probably hidden by those Minutemen guys - President Bush said they were "vigilantes", and I'm sure he knows what he's talking about.

CNN) -- A federal task force seized arsenals of illegal weapons and homemade bombs in Laredo, Texas, in connection with a Mexican drug trafficking battle, authorities said Friday.

The feds captured more than 30 homemade bombs, grenade components, assault weapons, silencers, machine gun assembly kits, bulletproof vests, police scanners and cash, Julie Myers, assistant secretary of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in a statement.

Two of the bombs had been completed and others were under assembly, said officials from the task force that involved Immigration and Customs Enforcement, FBI, local authorities and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Authorities said they suspect last month's three seizures in Laredo are associated with the warring Mexican drug cartels called the Federation and the Gulf Cartel.

Officials said they found the weapons in homes during January 12, 26 and 27 searches.

U.S. authorities have said they increasingly fear violence in Mexico will spill over into the United States.

About 170 deaths have been attributed to the cartel battles in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, in the past year, officials said. Nuevo Laredo is across the Rio Grande from Laredo.

It will end up being the fault of American Vigilantes.

According to the government run Media.

My gut tells me that this is area is a flashpoint.
Why isint there a bigger US military presense there?

Waitaminnit.....

What's wrong with this picture? Searches of home in the US, but no mention of arrests. Machine gun completetion kits? Can we say, "Parts Kits"? Still got thet Suomi kit stashed away? There ya go.
Grenade components? This is the LIEberal media - a pound of rifle powder and a box of primers are "grenade components". I wish there was more to the story, like "the homes were rented by Mexican drug smugglers', or "the weapons were found on a sting on smuggled weapons up from Mexico", or something along those lines, or we have another Waco with weak Fed justification....

Sounds like my dad is behind enemy lines. Might have to do down there and drag him out. He's not one to run from danger but I think its getting out of control down there.

Anyone else ever get the feeling that the government is deliberately leaving the borders open in the hopes we'll have another terror attack and they can use it to further tighten the screws?

On another note, this story is an excellent example of what a huge success the War on (people who use certain types of) Drugs has been.

You mean bigger than none at all?

I'm sure that the BP and local LE agencys can deal with anything that arises. We must learn to trust the Feds. I'm sure if there were really a problem that they'd be addressing it.

Yep, but to allow Jorge's friends easy access, not for deeper, darker plots.

Take a look at the Patriot Act (look at what is missing regarding the Southern Border):
http://www.epic.org/privacy/terrorism/hr3162.html

excerpt:
TITLE IV--PROTECTING THE BORDER
Subtitle A--Protecting the Northern Border
Sec. 401. Ensuring adequate personnel on the northern border.
Sec. 402. Northern border personnel.
Sec. 403. Access by the Department of State and the INS to certain identifying information in the criminal history records of visa applicants and applicants for admission to the United States.
Sec. 404. Limited authority to pay overtime.
Sec. 405. Report on the integrated automated fingerprint identification system for ports of entry and overseas consular posts.
Subtitle B--Enhanced Immigration Provisions
Sec. 411. Definitions relating to terrorism.
Sec. 412. Mandatory detention of suspected terrorists; habeas corpus; judicial review.
Sec. 413. Multilateral cooperation against terrorists.
Sec. 414. Visa integrity and security.
Sec. 415. Participation of Office of Homeland Security on Entry-Exit Task Force.
Sec. 416. Foreign student monitoring program.
Sec. 417. Machine readable passports.
Sec. 418. Prevention of consulate shopping.

No mention of improving the southern border.

Deliberate non-enforcement. Yes, it's occurred to me--and, I'm sure, to many of us. I think it's economic, though, not part of a plot to crack down harder after a terrorist attack. I believe the globalistas just don't believe Anything Bad will actually happen. To believe that would necessitate rethinking Adam Smith and Adam Smith's Invisible Hand has them by the youknowwhat.

Deliberate non-enforcement is policy. I find it striking how our elected betters stand around snapping suspenders telling us nothing can be done to stop the flood.

Meanwhile, events happen which appear to cause major shifts in border crossing patterns. A private helocopter painted INS colors causes an entire city of illegals to go to ground. A rumor of a gunfight on the border stops immigration through the alledged area. A gang of bald, fat old geezers calls the president's bluff and effectively shuts down border crossing though specific areas.

The fact that we've done nothing in the face of evidence that something could be done if we had the political will tells me it is deliberate. Now a side effect of our evident policy is over time those coming north for whatever reason will get bolder and audacious. I think that's what we're seeing now.

They will ignore it until it appears that it might start influencing elections. Then they will all start pontificating about it. Maybe, just maybe, they will actually do something.

They'll pretend to start thinking about some possible plans to initiate comprehensive border and immigration reforms until after the election, then throw the voter aside like a bar slut the morning after.
"Will you respect me in the morning?"

"Yeah, heh heh, sure..."

The only hope we have is to vote anyone out who won't back immigration reform without regard as to who will take their place. We do this every time, and the message will get across.
What do we have to lose? Our country?
Hell, if things don't change, we've already lost it. Might as well make some noise on the way out.

Just too much money involved, going south and north.

Try "Respect you in the morning? Hell, I don't respect you now."

That's how I feel every time I see a quote from or get a letter from any of my congress hawgs...

I take a harder-nosed view. I want to vote out anyone who is not already on the record as demanding action. I no longer want to hear what is to be done; I want to see action. And since the system has refused to act I want to reward those who stand up in the face do-nothings and spoke reality. Far as I am concerned the time for words is long past. The only things that counts now is action.

The non-enforcement along the Mexican border is a long-standing affair. Years ago, the BP stopped Matamoros residents from bringing their kids to school in Brownsville. They got orders from D.C. to quit that enforcement...

(From a now-retired BP guy who was there.)
