Hi all. Ive started having some issues with my RIA lately. Every so often when it goes to chamber a round the rim of the cartridge wont get picked up by the extractor. It will push the round into the chamber and the slide wont go into to battery. It only started doing this after I put about 300 rds through it. What should I look for? Any help would be greatly appreciated

90% of M1911 feed problems can be traced back to the magazine and not the gun itself. Are you experiencing this on the last bullet, or at the same place in the stack?

Check the magazine follower and the feed lips (open part of the magazine) for any signs of deformation, cracks or signs of wear.

Either buy a new magazine (you need more than one anyway), or ask to borrow one from someone at your range and see if the problem persists with a different magazine.

gb6491- I found that page in your link earlier and according to it the extractor tension is correct. I didnt notice any damage to either the extractor or breech face.

CWL- It always happens randomly. I usually go through about 4-6 full mags before it happens then it wont happen again the rest of the time Im there. The magazine looked ok when I checked it.

I didnt suspect that it could be the mag at first due to the fact that the round was fully seated in the chamber with the extractor stuck behind the case. Ill have to get a new mag and use it for awhile to see if the problem persists.
