Feel like a dummy, let my dad shoot 12 gauge, and he shot the target carrier

We were at a range in Ohio, and on the last shot, my dad negligently shot the target carrier with 00 Buck and the carry wire snapped but the thing still moved back and forth.

My dad told the guy that the wire snapped and he said it's ok, but I'm not my dad explained exactly what happened. It's a really good range, I hope they let us back :(

Is there an implication about your dad and shooting I am missing?

WHOOPS do happen from time to time - if you damaged something and offered to make it right, why wouldn't they let you back? Guess I'm missing something here

I am so embarrassed that I just paid and left after telling him, Should I send him an email to apologize? I don't wanna make the situation worse.

If damage was done, act humble, apologize and offer to make it right - that would be my suggestion for ANY accidental situation in which material damage was done and no one was hurt

Um, first just relax for a second. You did not shoot anyone and luckily no person got hurt. At a minimum offer to repair the damage that was caused and be done with it. I am sure you are not the first, nor the last, you will damage the target holders.

What do you mean when you say he shot it negligently? Did he fire the shotgun unintentionally and the shot hit the carrier, or did he just miss?

If the guy said things were okay, then why do you think they might not let you back?

Well, My dad Claims he said things were "Okay" but I'm not sure how he explained to him what happened, it was very busy so he didnt get a chance to go back and see what we were talking about.

He aimed and missed.

Kid, seriously...

Being a bad shot is not being negligent. Target holders get shot on ranges pretty much every day. I wouldn't stress about it. And finally, this is your Dad's responsibility not yours.

I am not sure how old you are and how old your dad is but my dad died when I was 18 and I would be so glad to be shooting with him if I had the chance again that he could shoot the target carrier everytime we went to the range and I would just pay for the damage each and every time and be thankful.

stuff like that is a cost of doing business... i'm sure that this happens all the time....heck the thing could have been shot 5 times before and your shot just happened to do it in. They don't feel bad about making X amount of $ a year running the range ....you shouldn't feel bad about an accident that is bound to happen to every rage that is in existence

Yeah, doesn't sound like negligence to me, he told the range what happened, right? I may have only shot at one indoor range (the type where everyone stops and goes down to staple a new target, or just steps away from their gun), but I know the target stands used outside get shot up reasonably, so I'd expect, especially with shotguns, that damage would happen. Probably gets eaten up as a cost of doing business with firearms. That, and a simple guy wire probably doesn't cost a heck of a lot. At least it doesn't sound too complicated.

Its not like there was some coverup or anything like that, right? At least there are decent people around still. (What, there is no thumbs up smilie?!?)

The indoor range I go to surely gets their carriers blasted often. Ever wonder why the target carrier is nothing more than a piece of sheet metal and some wires on a simple motor?....because they gt shot to hell...OFTEN:D

Don't sweat it. Take a gander at the WALLS of the range next time:eek:

Take a gander at the WALLS of the range next time

No kidding!! I always check those out at my range, there is a nice chunk out of the wall in the last stall on the left, maybe 3 inches from the stall. Now that may be somewhat negligent (gun must have been barely pointing down range).

The whole point at going ot the range is to practice. The need for practice implies the shooter is not perfect. As long as he is not running around shooting like a madman, I would not sweat it or really chalk it up to negligence. It was a bad shot. Happens all the time. If it does get to you, call up the range and offer to pay damages, if that is what your character directs you to do, then do it.

Ranges are generally not going to kick you out or ban you unless you are showing a complete disregard for basic safety and rules or if you are deliberately trying to destroy their property.

carry wire snapped

What kind of wire are we talking about here? The indoor range here in town uses binder clips and cheapo wire to hold up targets.

No big deal at all if they are shot.

In fact, a girl I was teaching to shoot nailed a binder clip last time we were there. She freaked, I calmed. No biggie.
