FEG P9R, extraction problems.

Got my "new gun" out with some ammo today. Slightly disappointing.

Several problems. A few failures to extract/ double feeds... per mag. I think the mag is one issue, the mag catch slot has a notch in it, so it's not completely tight, rattles a bit.

But the big issue is the extractor. It slams into the rims, damaging them. and half the time not engaging fully. It looks like the extractor sits a bit too far in, so it doesn't just slide over the rim.

Any suggestions for fixing this? new extractor, spring, or just some filing?

I might get around to taking some pics of what it does to the rim, and the extractor... maybe

Hello Aka Zero, I have a pjk-9hp, which I believe is very simular but mine is not a decocker. I had the same problems with FTE and found the it was my magazine. The feed lips were spread too far apart allowing the shell to tip up at the front. I just bent the front edge of each one down an even amount and that fixed the problem. I didn't have to bend them much either, just enough to make sure the shell stays in. I also had the same extractor problem when I installed a new one. I just needs a little...very little mind you. ..filing to correct the angle of attack on the rim of the shell. Also make sure the extractor is pivoting freely on the roll pin and not binding.

Hello. The FEG P9R resembles the Hi Power a little externally due to the lightning cuts on the front of the slide but this FEG is more akin to the S&W line of DA/SA autos than the Hi Power. Internals differ just as they would between a Hi Power and an S&W auto.

That said, based on what you are saying it sounds like the extractor is first:

1. set in a little far and unable to let the case rims slide up behind it as the round is chambered and the slide closes so,

2. you see the "marks" as it has to jump the rim on each and every shot fired; not a good thing and,

3. the extractor claw may be cut at a wrong angle or have a weak extractor spring...or both, but its making the marks makes me think that either the extractor pads have been filed down too much or the actual extractor cut in the slide is too deep.

It is impossible to tell when trying to diagnose from a distance.

I am sincerely hoping that the problem can be fixed by replacing the extractor and spring. I examined pictures of the FEG P9R and the extractor does appear to be the same as is on their actual Hi Power clone, the FEG PJK 9HP. When folks having similar problems with the actual Hi Power clone's extraction, substituted one from Browning Arms (or FN) solved the problem. Now and then some fitting was necessary but frequently not. I order Wolff's extra power Hi Power extractor spring. Usually when I've found extraction problems in Hi Powers, it was due to a weak extractor spring.

Hopefully, this will solve your problem and would be my first approach.

It seems to be that either the slide, or extractor has worn it down, so the claw protudes to far, and the end of the rim hits a falt on the extractor.

I am going to get some punches later, get it out and file it about .2mm and see if that puts it about the level of a normal extractor. This will stop it damiging rims at least, if it keeps fte, I will probally get a new extractor spring.

Also, part of missouri is south of KC, (liitle under 40 miles south)

I too just acquired a FEG, and am having exactly the same problems with it. It shoots, and then the 2nd shell jams up under the rim of the first one. The shells it ejects come out looking like somebody hit it with a chisel where the extractor grabbed the rim.

The gun itself is very accurate, but it doesn't cycle worth spit. I, at first, wondered if the magazine was the problem, and later on if the ammo was to blame, but I've run several different types of 9mm through it, and with the same results.

The gun itself seems to be just like my S&W semiautos with a few part-shape differences, but none of them have ever given me extractor problems, so I'm a little puzzled. I'm thinking a new extractor and spring might solve the problem, but I'll try nosing down the clip feed surface and a few of those tricks already mentioned in previous posts first to see if it'll behave itself.

The gun feels good, and shoots accurately... if you want to shoot one shot and then fumble with it for 30 seconds to get off your second shot. It does have a bit of a raised surface on the thumb side of the grip that's a little uncomfortable, so I'm looking for some better grips as well, but like a fine-tuned racecar, I'm thinking that the gun has a minor flaw and when I find it and fix it, I can smile again.:banghead:

One thing I learned is that a lot of the FEG guns have LOTS of cosmoline and grease up inside the small parts of them, so it's best to use some good cleaner on the whole gun to make sure everything is running smoothe before you even try to fire it. This one's been a challenge... but again, it's a half-price knockoff of the Hi-Power (even if its only in looks).

While tinkering I think I have messed up my recoil spring as well.

Make a horrible noise.

So I am going to order some stuff, extractor spring, maybe a new extractor, and a recoil spring.

Springs on the way, little file work on the extractor after i got my punches, the extractor will now fully snap around the bullet without damaging the rim. need the recoil spring, and will update after that.

Aka Zero, where did you order the springs from? Just curious.
