I have been looking at an FEG Hi Power clone. The price with 2 full capacity mags is $400. The condition is about 98%. Is it worth the price ? My major concern is the quality.

Hey Whitewolf, I'm hoping to tag along on your thread. I just put down a deposit on a FEG HP yesterday after spending much of the day on the internet and thumbing catalogs. Mine was new, 379.00 with one mag. SOG has em in their catalog at 329.00 new. Of course you would have shipping and a transfer fee on top of that if you don't have an FFL.
What I would like to know is what mags are considered good to buy. I think the Mec-Gar 13 rounders are good to go but what about the 15 round versions. Are they reliable?
Should you do anything to a new FEG clone like change springs or certain parts? Are there some spare parts you should keep?
This will be my first Hi-Power and although it is a clone, its as close as I could come right now.

They're good quality P-35s made of decent steel, but the overall finish is a bit rough. The triggers are horrible until the mag safety plunger is removed.

Lots of pitfalls here.

I believe the true HP clone was the PJK 9HP and not the P9M. Doesn't the P9M have three locking lugs on the barrel instead of two like the PJK 9HP and the HiPower?

For a used FEG, the price is a little high. A friend of mine bought a used one a year or so ago for around $325. It was a two tone model with the blued slide and satin chrome frame. It had a decent set of high visibilty sights, and while the trigger was somewhat gritty, once the mag safety was removed, it was quite serviceable. Accuracy and function have been alright, and overall it seems to be a decent gun for the money.

If you want the Hi-Power clone, get the PJK-9HP model. It is a true clone of the BHP.
At the end of the run FEG did change a few parts in the PJK-9HP as it transitioned to the newer FEG 9mms. So be sure to get an "older" PJK-9HP if you want one that interchanges with BHP parts.
They are excellent guns, half the price of the BHP, excellent trigger pull (after removal of the mag safety and minor polishing of parts).

I bought a new Feg P-35 clone sometime back in the box with 2 mags for $200.00 And I have since found 4 Browning mags that work very well ,all 13 rd. It functions flawlessly with any 9mm I put in it. Mostly I cast a 120 gr. tc that is my alround favorite.

This link cleared up my confusion. The PJK-9HP is the later version of the original P9M SA, as rollmarked for the US market. The P9M had three locking lugs, and the PJK-9HP has two or three, depending on the year of manufacture.

I have the true BHP clone, I sold my DA version, it had a very nice blue finish as many FEG products do.
It came in a picture box that shows the version with the vent rib on the slide though.
Mine is ok but the pin on the frame above the trigger guard drifts out under recoil, I need to figure a good way to secure it.

I just bought a P6 for 300 used in perfect condition. It isn't a FEG but just to let you know they are out there and in my opinion, a much better gun for the money. I hear you can find them used, (mine is a German Police return) for about that price or a little higher every day. Mine is like new in box with two mags. Functions flawlessly. here's a pic.

i agree - if your heart is not set on a hi cap or bhp platform gun then the surplus sigs are maybee the best deal going on handguns right now. for $300 and some change its a true bargain, i just got one last week and might have to get another.

The PJK 9HP is the BHP copy. It is a great functioning pistol, should be available for around $250. Any good quality mags for BHP will fit it, but I have not had any probl;ems at all with MecGars for double stack 9mm.
FEG's were very high quality pistols, made for military and police use in Hungary. I have owned about 8 or 9 different ones, now have only a MBP in
.32 ACP. It is a great little pistol, and I carry it everywhere in the summer.
Prices are starting to climb as more people find out how good these guns shoot.
I have never had a problem with any FEG made pistol I have owned.

FEG went bankrupt and I've heard about some problems about the guns over on the Hi-Power forum.

Nothing from FEG is worth owning.
The first issue you will have, if you shoot it more than a box or two a year, is that the pins will bend. If you are lucky all that will do is make the gun unfireable or go full auto. If you replace the pins with quality pins the holes in the frame will elongate and the pins will get loose.
The problem is not in the design (although all FEG designs are copies), the problem is in the metal. They do not hold up to protracted firing.
$400 is way too much for any FEG. I wouldn't own one longer than it took me to trade it away.
Before the supply of HP FEGs ran out they were going for $199. I bought my son one and it went full auto by the fifth or sixth box of ammo. Replaced the bent sear pin with drill rod and it went full auto again in a few boxes of ammo. That time the frame holes were so elongated it took a weld and refinish to fix it.
With the cost of gunsmithing I could have bought a real HP. Definitely one of the biggest lemons I ever bought NIB>
