FEG quality and price

Yeah

I had one. Basically the same problems, mine never went FA though. Looked like a nice pistol, but everything was so soft.

I wouldn't buy one again.

If you have to have one, Don't pay much more than $200. They arguably aren't worth even that.

Your post is the exactly opposite of the information found on the current HP forum of choice: Handguns and Ammo Forum.

See H&A Forum

My experience with my PJK 9HP aligns more with the thread referenced above than your post.

Well I spent an awful lot of time on the net before committing to that FEG and I never saw any negative comments like that either. I hoping for a good experience.

The thread you linked is more or less what I found to be the universal opinion.

Well

Now you've seen two negative accounts. Both people actually owned and shot them and had that experience. Not second hand. Take it for what it's worth.

And those of us who have put thousands of rounds through our PJK 9HPs without issue are to be ignored because our experience doesn't match theirs?

Any gun will have some bad stories. From what I've read about the model I bought, the vast majority of owners were happy with the gun. I'm satisfied I'm not getting a problem-child type firearm.

I am sorry about insulting your pet pistol. You do realize it's not an extension of you. Just an inanimate object. Right?

The one I had was a straight up piece o crap. Didn't say yours was, didn't say they all were.

Around me they are <$250. Usually ~$225.

Well I am sorry I didn't pass on the pistol after reading your scintillating write-up on your particular "piece o crap."

When mine starts bending pins and the holes in the frame start resembling Tylenol capsules, I will ruefully recall your wise counsel.

And BTW, if you can find a new FEG Hi-Power clone "around you" for 225.00, I'll buy it for you. :)

Saying all FEG products are junk is a little over ther top. I hear the versions of the AK they put out are among the finest stamped receiver Ak's out there. I remember when the SA-85 was available, I always though the stocks, though thumbhole, were a very strinking blonde wood.

Anyone have one of the BHP clones with the vent rib? Anyone else agree the blue finish on FEG guns tends to very rich and blue/black glossy looking?

I totally agree that their AKs are top notch.

Yes they do. That's what got me to buy the one I had.

I have to agree w/ Moonclip and Atblis on the quality of the finish, it is very rich and blue/black looking. I have fed a few thousand rounds of 9mm and .40 cal through my FeGs without them going FA.
The Hungarian AK is very well made and probably a well kept secret. Blonde wood is very nice.

I had bad experience with FEG P9R (not the HP copy) barrel
if you search for my user name you will find a thread here.

One of the barrel's lugs broke and I could not find that barrel for almost year. Finally contacted Charles Daly owner who posts on THR and asked him if may be his guys could have one left from many years ago when P9Rs where imported by one the older companies they bought.... and I got an email from his gunsmith next day -- he asked me for exact dimensions -- and they found one left.... I was lucky.

But I would only buy FEG stuff if they come with life time warranty -- so only if somebody like CD them.
I have heard that FEG is out of business as far importing anything to US.

(I have two more FEGs and they are HP clones .. I actually took
the slide from true HP to see if goes in on FEG frames and the other way around -- and it did, and the same is with mags -- but did not fire that setup)

As others have said, the asking price seems a bit high. I paid $350.00 for a used one. Removed the mag safty and the trigger still sucked. It's getting a trigger job right now. MecGar 15 round mags are the only way to go. Don't waste money on anything else. If you have a bunch of real Hi Powers as I do and want a clone for a beater gun, go for it. Otherwise I would rather suggest that you wait till you can get a real Browning HP. It's a so much better pistol.

KBI (my company) and Kassnar Imports (my father's old company) imported umpteen thousands of FEG pistols and their AKM rifles from the mid-80's until today. They had different issues at different times, but the function was always very good even if the finishing at times left something to be desired. The prices were always fantastic.

For you to truly understand my relationship to FEG pistols and rifles over the years, I will pass on a little known fact about some of the model names that came here to the US:

The PJK-9HP was named for my wife, Pamela Jane.
The MBK-9HP and MBK-9HPC were named for me.
The PMK-380 was named for my father, Paul Martin
The GKK-45, GKK-92 and GKK-92C were all named for my daughter.
The SMC-380, SMC-918 and SMC-22 were named for my sales manager at the time (who got jealous that I was naming all the guns after my family).
Then my sister complained that we had not named anything after her and I replied that there already was one named for her, the AK. Her name is Alexis!

And of course FEG was intimately involved with the Charles Daly HP project, producing all of the components that were ultimately finished in the US.

FEG also sold some of these same models at various times to the old Interarms company and Century. (FEG could never be trusted to honor any exclusives for very long!) That is why you see some of the same guns with different model designations over the years. However, all of the above model names belonged to Kassnar or KBI so they could only have come from these two companies.

For those of you that have any of the above models, and you require service some day, please contact our Service Department. Though all of them are no longer under warranty, (except for the Daly HP), and some were not even sold by KBI but by Kassnar Imports which went out of business in 1989, there is a good chance that we still have some parts (though not all parts) and we will do our best to help you out, as we did for the gentleman (platform) who had a FEG pistol imported by one of our competitors.

Sincerely,

Neat! And thanks for the offer of help. I had a bad customer service experience in 2000 with KBI but I forgive you:) I like the name game, the CA "ring of fire" manufacturer Lorcin was Laura and Cindy IIRC.

Wilkinson Arms had the Diane,Linda and Sherry, I wonder why her didn't have one named after himself, the Ray gun!

I want a SMC-22, whats the opinion on these? I have had bad luck with clone PPK types in .22lr.

For those so interested, Southern Ohio Guns has them in the ad I received in yesterday's mail.

Hey Mr. Kassnar, I love your company's service btw! I called (apparently after hours) and a guy named Don helped me out with some information I needed. Give that guy a raise!:D

Im glad that someone finally got info on the HP Clones as the earlier stuff (forums and posts) are filled with "just buy a 300 dollar FM" or something. The days of the 300 dollar HP are over and now we can get info on these clones without a resounding NAY!

FEG PJK-9hp

I hope no one minds if a newbie chimes in! I recently purchased a used FEG PJK-9hp. It was in very decent shape and already had the mag disconnect removed. I gave $257 OTD which I thought was a fair price. I came to find it needed an extractor & spring. I contacted Charles Daly based on what Mr. Kassnar wrote on this thread. They were very nice an were able to help me with an extractor and a spring which I received in only 4 days. Needless to say, I can not say enough good things about the service I received from them.... and as for the pistol, it now performs flawlessly! I had no FTF or FTE problems with the either the Winny white box or the Magtech ammo I used. The accuratecy is also very good, better than my son's Ruger P95DC for that matter. I did a lot of research on FEG's before buying it and found that only in a very few cases where owners complained their quality was lacking and they had problems. For the most part FEG is touted as being a very good quality and reliablilty for the price. I can't imagine the Hungarian police/military using them if they were not.

Take care, Moptop
