Ok I am all set to start reloading the BIG FIFTY so I go to the store and was going to buy some goex FFG and a sales man I know said Hey I've been looking for you for a few weeks now he gives me a box with about 15 pounds of various powders and more importantly 6 pounds of older but unpoened goex FFFG. I know it is suposed to be a pistol powder but I do not have any. I have just the 50-90 So will I be ok to use the FFFG?

I use 80 grains of 3f Swiss behind a 550 grain bullet in my .451 Volunteer rifle. You should expect a little more oompf for the volume with 3f over 2f but it'll work just fine.

The manual for my Lyman .50 bore, front-stuffer rifle shows 3F loads. You may want to reduce the charge slightly, but there's little difference. The pressure will peak a tiny bit faster with the finer powder, and it will light off easier. The chemical mixture is the same in the different granulations. Several of the load/bore/powder charts show both 2f and 3f as medium bore rifle powders.
