If you own a gun store, do you have to be there to sign off on every firearm sale? Or can your employees, sign off under you? thanks George

I've never seen the owner of the local shop I buy from sign off on a sale, so I'm pretty sure it's not mandatory that they do so.

As long as they are an employee, enter the information in the log, fill out the required forms, and call for the background check, the owner does not have to be present.

Employees of a gun store who are authorized to complete form 4473 must sign an addendum (appendix A) to the store's FFL. This signature allows the employee to do the sale w/o the owner being present.
