Has anyone tried the fiber optic sights? I understand they work well in daylight and low light but, how about at night or in a dark room? I was thinking about a set for my XD 45. Who makes the better ones? Thanks.

Fibre optic sights depend on ambient light. No show in true darkness.

There is the Truglo TFO - "tritium fibre optic" - sight with a tritium lamp under a fibre optic insert. They are kind of broad and coarse but they show up in more different lighting conditions than any other.

If you just want fibre optics for daylight shooting, the Brazos Lightning rod or the HiViz will be the brightest, their inserts are the longest and catch the most ambient light. I think the Dawson is sturdier with the insert better supported.

+1 on the Brazos, I've got one on a Kimber Custom Royale with an MMC adjustable rear, and it's wonderful for my >50 eyes. I go back & forth on the red vs green light tube (ferget the yellow/orange), but I love 'em. Might wanna look at Dillon's for othe apps. Good luck.

I put fiber-optic sights on all of my range guns. I really like the Dawson's, and I have both adjustable and fixed fiber-optic sights from them on different guns. If there is any kind of ambient light, they jump out at you.

On my carry gun (XD-9 Sub-compact) I have TruGlo TFOs. As someone already mentioned, TFOs give you the benefit of fiber-optics when shooting with ambient light, but they also (litterally) glow-in-the-dark due to the tritium vials that light-up the fibers... Even in pitch black conditions.
