Bung hole? I've always made sure my little pocket knife was razor sharp. Cut around the ???? and skin back to the colon. After splitting the pelvis, do a bit of careful cutting-free and pulling and the entire colon comes out with the intestines.

On a small deer, a really sharp knife will let you rip us from inside the pelvis and split it. For larger or more mature deer, either a hatchet--with great care :)--or tapping the back edge of a hunting knife with a rock will split it.

Does anyone know of deer donation places near Seattle where I can give half the meat away?

Try contacting the Washington branch of Sportsmen Against Hunger at:

206-333-6729 or 206-343-9797

Good cause, you keep space in the fridge and possibly get a tax write-off. Also helps put hunters in a good light.

RWC you may want to look into one of those hand winches, you run a chain between the two front tie downs in the bed and hook the hand crank winch to the chain in the middle. You put a sheet of plywood in the bed of the truck.

When he needs to load his deer, he can just hook up the winch and use the sheet of plywood as a ramp and just crank the deer up the ramp and into the bed.
