Finally, a gun-smart character in a horror film ("They Live" by John Carpenter)

VirgilCaine: you're right on the hideout semi (Baby Browning?), right on the biker guard, and right on the "Free Enterprisers". I still say that putting the transponder on top of a downtown office building was an awfully weak link in a multi-dimensional conspiracy.

@hayseed: I'm 95% sure that both cops were aliens in the first Nada vs. Cops scene. I'm 100% sure that the "beat feet" scene came afterwards, after the bank shootout, where he ordered the human cop to drop the revolver. Don't make me watch that scene again; I'll cite the running time if I have to.

And yeah, The Thing is fantastic, even by today's standards.

There are few things better than sitting around on a cold cold winter night and watching 'The Thing'. Carpenters movies are among my favorites. 'Big Trouble in Little China' is one of the most entertaining comedy/action movies ever made in my opinion.

In the aliens defense, I have to say that they had control of the police AND a big helicopter with a machine gun on it. It seems pretty secure to me...they DID kill the guy in the end.

This is the only stupid part of the movie, really.

I mean, it's not like it's Jeepers Creepers. No food, no water, no weapons, no extra gas, no extra clothing, no extra cellphones or batteries, one flashlight. And then...let's go DOWN into the TUNNEL FILLED WITH BODIES!

Wel, then you will be happy to know that the reator of "V" is getting another shot at it. Supposedly the TV studio wants to "re-make" the original (chronologically updated probably) then move on with new stuff.

Ok, now what is exactly is this, a movie or TV show named "five" or "V?" I googled it but can't come up with anything and now you guys got me interested.

They Live and The Thing are both FANTASTIC movies...grade B or not. They are better than modern horror/sci-fi flicks with budgets 20 times as big. The Thing wipes it's hind end with crap like AVP...:D, and They Live is brilliant social commentary on par with Romero's best.

"V" was pretty sweet as well! When I was a kid I wanted to grow up to be Ham Tyler...mercenary, arms dealer, armor piercing bullet maker...and alien killer....with a heart of gold...despite his rough "me first...I don't believe in causes" exterior. :p

Oh...and Mr. Mex your answer is:

"V" was an early 80's miniseries that just thrived on Cold War paranoia...think aliens + doomsday + nazi allegory = fun.

"V" The Miniseries

Sounds like Malcolm Reynolds.

If you're willing to forgive some goofs, watch Assault on Precinct 13. The 1970's version. Great movie. The movie is great. The way the assault is set up and who makes it isn't very believable.

Keeping it on gun/tactics topics as best I can

Minor Assault on Precinct 13 spoilers

Saw it, thought it was pretty good, and recc. It was interesting to see a gang whose weapons of choice were the M16A1 and Broomhandle Mausers. I can see the rifle, but a Broomhandle?

But the tactics were painful.

The whole film, I was thinking "go up the dang stairs". They're taking heavy fire through all doors/windows in the ground floor lobby, and there's one single twisting stairway leading to the next level. Would have been a great way to channelize the enemy. Then the twits finally brought up the issue: "we can't go upstairs, there's windows all over up there." Given that there are windows all over the ground floor as well, which gang members are continually shooting through or crawling through, I fail to see the argument. At least the enemy would have a much worse angle firing at upstairs windows. Anything would have been a better idea than going into the basement!

But still a fun film.
