Back in January, I bought a Brinkmann Maxfire LX and believe it or not, mine died on me last night while installing a printer. I tried taking it apart and reseating everything, but it still wouldnt work. Good thing I kept the receipt and stapled it to the part of the package that has the bar code on it. Walmart did they exchange, no problem. I'm just a little puzzled as to why this neat little flashlight would just stop working. I was using it with it on, and it just quit on me. :confused:
 
Maybe the bulb burned out? Unfortunately, you have to get spares from Brinkmann, so order several.

My experiences with the Walmarts in my area have been fairly good. I have never bought a gun there. I do buy WWB ammo there when there is a need to run some factory ammo through a gun. They don't even ask me if th ammo is for a handgun. They just ring it up, bag it, and send me on my way.

Does anyone know if Walmart does lay-a-way for guns?
 
Saw a Remington 870 Express 12 there last night on sale for $207. I already have one though.

And here is an ODUK for WalMart.
Kid brings his new Remington Express to me because first time out it won't feed shells.
I open it up and it appears that no magazine spring is present in the gun.
Follower and Mag spring retainer are present, no spring.

I spend a few merry minutes getting the mag spring retainer out, this is harder than might think when there is no spring pressure to help propel the cap free from the magazine tube.

Anyway what comes out is a mass containing all the correct parts assembled in all the wrong ways.

An employee of the WalMart put the 3 shot plug in the gun for our intrepid shooter because "That's the law in Illinois and you can't take possesion until the gun is plugged."

the employee did so by removing the magazine spring cap and the mag spring, shoving the magazine plug into the front portion of the mag spring, he then dropped the plug and spring on top of the follower, narrow end of the plug up, and reassembled the gun.

The first time our new shooter loaded shells into the magazine it wedged the spring up into the mag spring retainer.
Took quite a bit of pulling and grunting to get everyting to seperate.
I correctly reassembled the gun, function tested, and charged the young man five bucks for the trouble.

The moral of this tale,,,,
friends don't let friends shop at wal-mart, for ANYTHING.
 
Yeah, the intellect abounding in your average gunshop employee's head is soooo much more than of that of the clerk at Wal-Mart. :) Wal-Mart clerk screws up, so don't ever buy anything from Wal-Mart ever...right!
 
I don't think I'll ever buy another incandescent flashlight now that I've used LED flashlights. Now I'm on the hunt for the "perfect" LED flashlight.

But it does not surprise me that you had a burnout on yours, although I like Brinkmann a lot as a low-priced "user" flashlight. I have several of their models now and they're great. It's just that you got a xenon-type bulb in that thing. Is it possible that your bulb was just defective and burned out prematurely?

I'm waiting to see when (if EVER?) Mag Instruments comes out with an LED version of all their classic flashlights like the Mini Mag and the Solitaire and of course the big bruiser 8 D-cell club! I wrote them an email several YEARS ago asking why they are not on the LED bandwagon and they sent me back an email saying they would be soon. :uhoh: [iWell??[/i]

I understand the pros of LED flashlights but have you found any that put out the same level of light as the Xenon flashlights? It seems like the ones I've used put out a focused beam that, IMO, is too small for when you really need to illuminate something and aren't as bright as the Xenons. Having said that I still want to pick up some high quality LEDs down the road for task lights. Currently I have two lithium xenons, one low quality Brinkmann LED and various mag-light type lights.

I just got a Surefire U2 and I'm inclined to believe the claim of 80 lumens on "high". I got it "mailorder" and it turned out larger than I expected but nothing objectionable.
