Finally, a *reasonably* realistic portrayal of firearms training/safety on TV

I've been watching the Dr. Who spinoff "Torchwood", and it has a decent amount of gunplay in it, and for the most part, it's handled relatively well

for example, this scene where Jack Harkness is teaching Gwen Cooper the basics of firearm handling (as well as hitting on her to boot ;) ), I especially liked his realistic reactions to her sweeping him with the muzzle, and getting her to stop her flashy gun presentation

It also shows a decent approximation of what happens when a neutral/anti gunner is introduced to firearms properly, the realization that "This is FUN!!"

On a side note, I really would like to pick up some of those Weevil targets (the weird looking critter targets Gwen is shooting at)

Kinda cute, but I wish the techniques he was teaching were better. "Cup and saucer" and the "hand on wrist" aren't correct; and the duelist stance for a newbie isn't, IMO, advisable. And he's pretty weak on safe gun handling. But her excitement about discovering that shoooting is fun was nicely portrayed.

It kinda reminds me of the time I was teaching a female colleague to shoot trap. She had never shot a gun before, and of course started out blowing a bunch of holes in the sky. But then she broke a target and her excitement was a pure pleasure to behold.

The range they film this in is a real range that I shoot at in Barry near Cardiff.
It's a 200yrd fullbore range in an old railway tunnel :)
Pity they didn't leave all the cool torchwood props there :)
