FINALLY.. an SP-01 for me

Picked up a gun today that I've been trying to get my hands on one of for almost 2 years now. The CZ SP-01. It's not that it's an incredibly rare gun, but none of the stores anywhere near me ever carried the CZ brand in stock. When I looked into ordering one, the price was just never right. On the very rare occasions I found one in a store it was always a 'tactical' decocker model, which I'm not a fan of, or the wrong caliber.. or something.. always something.

The other day though, at Gander Mtn. if you can believe that, they actually had a brand spankin' new one, manual safety, and with Trijicon night sights.. with a 10% off sticker which priced it BELOW getting a standard non night sighted model shipped and transferred to me from an online source.

Picked it up today, after taxes and out the door, for just a few bucks over 6 bills. Mind you I really can't afford it, and it means I'll be selling off something else.. but it's pretty satisfying to find one you've been looking for so long for at the right price. I simply couldn't pass it up.

My plan was always to take one and convert it to the SAO flat trigger, and that's what I still intend to do.

Am curious to know what is the advantage of switching out to a flat trigger (other than the light SA pull)?

Well, that's it pretty much. I'm used to a single action 1911 trigger. I'm normally a .45 guy, and never had a lot of interest in 9mm. For me though, the whole point of the CZ was to get a gun specifically for target use. Something with good accuracy (which I'm told the CZ has), a good heavy weight, and something I already knew I could get a good lightweight SA trigger system on. The CZ Custom shop offers this flat trigger that is also adjustable for pre and over travel.

The particularly good 9mm 1911s tend to be pretty pricey. Also, the frame is bigger on the CZ and seems to suit my very large hands fairly well. It might not point as well for me right now, but I think I can get used to it. Although I haven't actually fired the gun yet, so I can't really say for sure, from all my research I think it's a good alternative with the SA trigger and Comp. hammer installed.
 
You practically got the night sites for free. Did you give a big wet smooch to the sales person after the transaction :eek:

Me thinks you gonna' really like it. Don't forget, the trigger can be a 9.5 on a 10 point scale with the CZ comp hammer and a spring change. I promise.
 
Man I love that gun, BEAUTIFUL! Been thinking about trading my 92fs for one. But I have so many mags for the 92:uhoh:. Great price, enjoy!

Nice find; as you say, it should suit your needs fairly well once you've switched out the trigger and hammer. It ought to do quite nicely against most 9mm. M1911's out there.
 
It looks like you got the 10 round mags. My CZ 75BD came with two 10 round mags. I have since bought two 15 round factory mags in addition to the two that came with the gun. Hex, are you limited to 10 round mags in NY? Or, do they all come with 10 round mags from the factory?

They definitely don't all come with 10 rounders from the factory. Actually, and oddly, the 10 round versions I've seen are all a little more expensive. On Bud's online gun shop for instance. Standard cap. , no night sights = $589.00 / Lo-cap ( 10 round mag), also no night sights = $609.00

I guess it's simply because someone has to make a substitution somewhere along the line, but seems a bit silly to me.

Anyway, yes to the other question. NY basically never dropped the '94 ban. We are limited to 10 round magazines, with the exception of 'pre-ban' magazines. Any magazines manufactured before the '94 ban are legal here.
 
I've had mine for about a year now and have shot it extensively. It has just gotten better and better and better! I am only an average marksman but, with the SP-01 I look pretty good. A couple of my friends who are excellent marksmen get absolutely scary, good accuracy out of this gun. Work with it and you will be amazed.
