It has a threaded barrel and a slanted muzzle brake. Well the muzzle brake has the little notch in it so it "clicks" and locks with the push-in pin on the base of the threads. My brake has the indention in the brake on one side so when it catches and the brake is crooked. Something minor I know and I don't really care too much but I thought well since its easy to unscrew I'll just get another for $10 and the others I've found are the same way. Why? I don't understand if theres a reason they're canted or what.

Here's a pic of a new one I found that's the same as mine, the notch is off to the side a little bit so it wouldn't line up either:

It's really not a huge deal but now it's just bugging me because I can't think of a reason as to why it'd be purposely sideways like that. :banghead:

When used on a gun that shoots full auto it is
supposed to keep the muzzle from rising. If
you take it off and fire full auto it tends to
rise to the right for a right handed shooter.

Yup. The slant cut is canted for a reason. They all are. If it bugs you you can Dremel in a new cut to hold it straight up... but to folks who know better that's going to look silly. :D

Thanks guys. I knew it had to be that way for a reason after I saw all these other ones for sale with the same sideways cut to it. I thought at first mine was just a mistake. But I keep seeing pics of AK's where they are straight so I guess those have been recut or something. It doesn't bug me as bad knowing its supposed to be like that and I didn't have some piece of junk brake :)

You can also replace the slant brake with a thread protector.
Or with a .30 cal version of the AK-74 brake which is very effective.

But, in the end, the slant brake is what "belongs" on your gun -- if you want it to look original.

The slant brakes are offset to the right because in full auto the weapon will climb diagonally to the left. Russian troops are also taught to aim for the right knee before touching off a burst for this reason.

Ha, pretty interesting piece of information, thanks!

The AK74 brake---That is what I had on my WASR-- It worked for me, but the stalls to the left and right did not like me too much! 8*)

Probably best of all, aim for his chest...
