This year I decided to go ahead and purchase both of my Turkey tags at the same time. I have been hunting Turkey in Kansas for over 5 years now and felt fairly confident that I would be able to fill both tags.

Season started April 12th. I have been out every weekend since. Not had any luck up until this weekend.

Got up at 4am. Set up by 530. Hear several calls early on between 6 and 7 am. I keep calling about every 15 minutes or so. Get some good gobbles back. Do some clucks and also get response. Around 8 am all gos quiet.

Sometime between 830 and 9am I doze off. Thats right I fall asleep. Not sure how long I was out. Just after 9am I open one of my eyes and what do I see....a nice gobbler out in the field. Not in gun range...but in the field none the less.

This is good. Now the only problem is my hands and arms have fallen asleep. Not good. So I try to make some small calls. FYI. Calling with a hand that is tingling from being asleep is not good. So now I just wait....and the next thing you know...another turkey in the filed. Now things are getting good.

As I am trying to get feeling back into my hands I get to watch the show. Both of these birds are displaying, strutting, spitting, sparing. It was the coolest thing I have seen in the woods in a long time. After about 15 minutes of this I finally realize that my hands and arms are back normal.

Start makning some very light calls. One of the birds starts my way. The other sees this and starts my way as well. I leveled my mossberg 500 with winchester 3" 4 shot turkey load on the bird with the bigger beard. BOOM!! First bird on the ground. Then line up on the other turkey which is now running for it life. BOOM!! Second trukey on the ground.

Just after 915am on 5/20/6 I got my first double. Truly a great day in the woods. First bird had a 7 inch beard. Second bird had 5 1/2 inch beard. Now my family will enjoy some fresh wild trukey in the next few weeks.

Congratulations on the double!

Perserverance prevails once again, now you will get to sleep in on weekends.
