For a year or two now, I've been keeping my eye out for a S&W 940, a hammerless j-frame in 9mm. Most of the listing on gun broker I've seen go for upwards of $700. A few local shops that have gotten them have also put them on gun broker where the auctions easly got that high or they priced them really high in the store.

Today I stopped by a local shop in the next town over after getting my car serviced at the dealership there. The owner mentioned that they didn't have much of a selection as they took most of their inventory over to Raleigh for a show this weekend, but I was more than welcome to look around.

I eyed a few things then drifted over the back counters of the store where the owner kept his person collection. Most of it could be sold for a price but the owner had to be there personally to do it.

Then it caught my eye: a S&W 940 with the box, the moon clips, and two extra packs of moon clips. I asked the owner if it was for sale and he said it was and took it out to show me. I hesitantly asked how much he wanted for it and he went to the back to look it up. I figured I would be walking out empty handed as he would look it up on gunbroker and quote me a price somewhere around $700. Instead, he looked it up in the bluebook and came back and said the best he could do was $525. I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough.

As soon as I got home I switched the crimson trace grips off my 640 onto my 940; it's going to be my new carry gun.

That was pretty much the last gun on my wish list that I would immedately buy for a reasonable price then stetch the budget until payday :)

You're a lucky dog, that's a heck of a deal these days, congrats. Now, where are the pics of your prize??!!

Congrats on a great find. I have also been looking for a 940 for awhile with no luck. I'm interested in the new Charter Arms 9mm revolver that is coming out soon.

That's a nice combo with the 305 grips. Great find at a good price. I'm still looking. I haven't ever run across one in my travels.

Check out the loaded moonclip holders offered by Matt Del Fatti leather. They are held in a little round kydex piece with a lip and the center post has an adjustable width rubber tenioner. It is real nice if I am not wearing a belt, and just slip one reload in a pocket and my 9mm revolver in an IWB rig and be on my way! A+ Del Fatti leather.
