Well, I finally got a .308 bolt gun:D Its a Remington 700 sps Varmint with a 26 inch bull barrel. Few questions... Who makes a good 2lb trigger? What bullet weight will stabilize best? (it has a 1 in 12 twist according to the remington web site)

Im planning to put a fixed 10x scope on it, an HS precision stock and a bipod when funds allow. but here are some pics for now.

triggers are really easy to adjust let me see if I can find the write up for it.. I have the same rifle in 22-250

Here is how I did it.

I removed the stock from the action and barrel assembly. With the barrel facing to the left and the trigger facing up there is only one screw you have to adjust. Now you have to remove the factory locking compound. . Insert a 1/16" Allen wrench and turn counter clockwise. I backed mine out two turns. Check with a trigger gage

When done, assemble your rifle, Clear your action (I know you did it before you started but double check) now with the rifle ready to fire, hold it by the barrel and smack the butt stock on the ground to make sure it does not misfire.

1.5 oz!!!! I have fired a 2 oz trigger before. That is .... touchy to say the least. Why would anyone want to adjust that low without a set trigger???

2 lbs trigger pull is a nice gentle pull and I think you would like it.
 
BR shooters love triggers that low, makes it so the pressure of your finger on the trigger doesn't moce the rifle at really long ranges. F-Class shooters do the same thing a lot, but not quite so low...(i have known one who dod though!)
 
ndh87, the Jewell trigger in the link posted by gvnwst is without question the BEST trigger for the Remington 700 ... I have three of them in three 700s. In fact, the Jewell is so good that I replaced the X-Mark Pro in my Alaskan Ti with one. I really tried to like the X-Mark Pro but in the end I simply prefer the Jewell. What I like about the Jewell triggers in addition to the fact that they're externally adjustable is that the trigger has a small amount of spring-loaded take up which is different than creep. The X-Mark Pro has ZERO creep or take up and I don't like that on a bolt action "precision" rifle. I like to be able to take up the trigger just a tiny amount until it stops moving and then I know that a little more pressure will set it off. With the Jewell triggers it sort of goes like this ... finger lightly resting on trigger, get on target, take up "slack", control breathing, gently squeeze ... BANG.

That's a good question but I don't think the Jewell triggers are technically "two-stage" triggers but I may be wrong about that. I probably didn't explain my liking of the Jewell trigger that well. With the X-Mark Pro, you can adjust the sear engagement screw but there's no resistance to trigger movement if you back the screw out, so the trigger just flaps around. The Jewell trigger feels like a spring is pushing it forward, so when you take up the "slack" you do so with some felt resistance, not a lot, but enough that you know when you've taken up all the free play.
