Finally got a SIG P220 after many years of lustful thoughts

A W Germany P220 has been my duty gun for the pst 15 years and I will never let it go. It has a dovetail front sight and blue steel mags.

Congrats on your P220 you made a great choice!

My daily carry is a P220R Elite Dark and I love it. I've always believed that the the 1911 is still the best .45 ACP firearm ever made, which if you ask me makes the Sig 220 the second best!

I need some 10-round mags so I can run it in Heavy Metal 3-gun matches.... got any sources? They seem to be rare as hen's teeth.

I'm not gonna lie... I hate those 10 round magazines. I had some and got rid of them all. They stick a solid 2" out of the gun, ruin the balance, and look utterly ridiculous. Plus, fast reloads with them are... weird. They're too long.

Run 8s in heavy metal like a boss.

When I switched to CDP from SSP in IDPA, it ended up improving my reload splits because I was having to do it so much more often. You'll get better as a result of it.

Heavy metal 3-gunners are supposed to be a little more hardcore anyway, aren't they? :p

Very nice choice.

I must say that I've never seen one with the original (sharp) spur hammer with the dovetailed front sight. The last one I saw had the front sight as part of the slide...and it did come in an orange cardboard box. Every dovetailed front sight model I've seen has been in a black plastic box like the one you have.

I really do like the older style checker grip panels too. Do you know if you have the longer mainspring with the steel retainer or the shorter one with the plastic boot?

The original, German made, factory magazines were all in blued steel...mine all have the dovetail rear seam. The stainless magazines are all manufactured in Italy by Mec-Gar

My P220 was bought in either 87 or 88. It has the spur hammer but not the dovetailed front sight. It came in a blue cardboard box with a test target. The mags were the blue dovetailed 7 rounders. It is the most accurate auto I own and is second only to my S&W 19 as my most accurate handgun.

It came with the old style hard plastic grips with the sharp checkering, but it's currently wearing Hogue's because it has an annoying tendency for the grip screws to back out after 25-30 rounds with the stock grips. If I were carrying it I would reinstall the original grips.

My first "P220" was known as a "BDA" back in '79 and it certainly established a long running love affair with the platform that continues to this day.

I haven't owned (kept) an alloy model since SIG introduced the all stainless models. I've found that the SS models have much less muzzle flip than the lighter weight alloy models and they just shoot better for me.

When SIG released the gaudy "Diamond Plate" edition I just had to have one. I waited for an all stainless version and as we all know, one never materialized. SIG even went so far as to discontinue the "Diamond Plate" model. Well I never!

As I already had a pair of all stainless P220's on hand, I snagged a couple of the alloy framed "Diamond Plate" models and did some parts swapping to come up with a model that SIG should have made to begin with. An all stainless "Diamond Plate" P220. Naturally, SRT kits were installed too.

And of course a snazzy Sharkskin holster was called for.

I picked up a nickel plated 220 about three years ago. I was shooting groups like the OP was the first time out. This is my one and only Sig left in the safe and its not going anywhere. :D
