My son bought a Glock 23 but his hand is small and he couldn't hit the mag release without re-positioning his hand so he bought a couple of aftermarket upgrade parts to make it easier for him to disassemble and drop the mag. He came over and I thought he wanted me to do the transfer of items for the 23, since I work on firearms, but he sat down in my chair at my loading station and started to change out parts. This is the first time I have seen him do anything other than computers, he did well. I am so proud of him and I have about 1500 rounds of 9 mm to show him how to reload. Proud Dad.

Congratulations to you and your son.

I realize this wasn't the main point you were making in your post, but...

See pro shooter Shannon Smith do magazine changes with his Glock G17 beginning at about the 2:05 mark.

His comment, "There is basically no gun on the planet that I can reach the magazine release on, without shifting the gun in my hand."

I expect to "flip" every gun to reach the mag release.

Your son must be a millennial?
I have recently seen several examples of hope for our younger generations.
Im Glad your boy found interest in shooting.
Most of us shooters, including you from the sounds of it are also tinkerers.
Try to pass on all of your knowledge to him, he is off to a good start with his parts swapping.

Love it when kids pick up and do things for themselves, congrats!

Now since the Glock 23 is a .40 S&W, since you have 9mm to show him how to reload do you have any .40 to teach him to shoot? ;)

J/K :)

Stay safe.
