Well, in this thread I asked the question last year about a CZ-75 that I'd found in a gun shop here in Utah. It only took me a year, but I picked it up yesterday, and as soon as I can figure out how to post a photo I will.

It appear to be, as Walt mentioned, a Pre-B CZ Model 75. The left side of the slide has A.A.L. etched with the CZ logo and "Model 75" on the left side. I'm very happy that I finally picked one up, it has the warranty card and a computerized summary of the pistol's test firing. One funny thing, the manual has a blank page exactly where it explains what the firing pin connector does! Too funny.

At any rate, I'm very happy with the purchase, or at least as happy as I can be without having shot it yet. I'm glad to be a part of the CZ club, and I can tell that I'll be adding to my collection in the near future.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a vendor for some 10 and 15 round factory mags?

Congrats on your purchase of a fine gun. Does it say "Made in Czech Republic" or "made in Czechoslovakia" on the slide? If Czech Republic, then you've got one of the new retros.

I think the MecGar website has some normal capacity magazines listed and they're less than what CZ-USA is charging.

There are minor differences in the mag catch from the pre-B to the B models.

Stick with factory mags for optimal performance in the pre-B. Mec-Gar's are great in the B's.

Its not just the mag catch mechanism... In fact, I didn't know there was a difference... I do know, however, that the opening in the grip frame is tighter on the pre-Bs. and many after-market mags won't even go into the grip far enough to nudge or engage the mag catch..

But, as noted, if you stick with true factory mags and there will likely not be problems.

You'll find that factory 10-rounders typically work well, and they tend to be readily available as guys with B models upgrade to 15-round mags.

(And while Mec-Gar is now the OEM provider of new mags for CZs, old Mec-Gar mags for the CZ-75B will not always work in the pre-Bs. In most cases, they won't. Take your gun to gunshow and actually try the mags in the gun; doing it by internet or email tends to be a frustrating experience. And DON'T buy them from Cheaper Than Dirt, Sportsman's Guide, or Cabelas if you're looking for pre-B mags..)

Be wary of these mags.

Several folks on the CZ Forum have bought these mags for their pre-B and have had problems... They are true Mec-Gars, and they are for the 75B. They may be "factory" mags, but they don't work like other factory mags in a pre-B.

(CDNN is a very good company to do business with, and while they will take the mags back, they will not absorb the shipping costs of the original shipping or the return.)

You'd be better off buying mags from someone who can VERIFY that they fit a pre-B, or buy some factory 10-rounders from someone who got them with their 75B...
