yeah i think i got it at a great price and i love everything about it, i do agree with all of you about the ergonomics, it fits really well!

i didnt get the gritty sand feeling you describe. its pretty nice actually.


i did look into other ammo before looking at hornaday. i was told monarch was cheap but pretty reliable. my local sporting goods place has it as its flagship ammo. ill have to get a box and test it out one day. for now, im shooting Winchester and hornaday: Critical Defense.

Monarch is Academy's exclusive branding for Prvi Partisan (PPU) ammo. PPU is sold under it's own name, the Hot Shot Brand, and probably others I'm not aware of. It's very good ammo for inexpensive target or hunting use. The only reason I wouldn't use PPU for defense is that they don't utilize a flash retardant powder additive (to my knowledge) in their JHP/JSP ammo.

Most of the major US brands premium defensive ammo does utilize such a flash retardant additive. Most, if not all, bulk/economy JHP doesn't use the additive. Ex: Remington bulk JHP doesn't have the flash reducer, but their premium Golden Saber line is reduced flash.
