After all the worry and questions I shot some reloads. I got to the range, paid, and found out my res dot sight died. So I pulled the Target in closer and got a general sight picture using the viewing window and the top of my rail. This is what I ended up with:

With no good sights, I doubt that the results are very meaningful. I would get your sights fixed and try again.

I am def going to give it another go but I'm confident enough to load 50 each instead of my usual 5

Nice on the reloads.

I got rid of all my red dots for that simple fact. When you need it, it might fail. So everything went back to lighted scopes or for pistols it went back to pistol scopes. I also didn't like how the red dot traveled with your eye.

Keep extra batteries with you for your dot scopes.

Yep spare batteries are a must. I also take the batteries out of the red dot when I leave the range, that assures that the battery never stays on and runs down.:)

What kind of red Dot sight were you trying to use? I mean, it makes a difference if this was an Aimpoint that went down or a Burris or something like that (generally reliable) but if it was a BSA or something like that, it is not surprising that it did not work when you wanted it to. My Aimpoint CompM4 can stay on for something like 8 years, non-stop, never needs to be turned off.
