I took my CCW class today. It was a little disappointing.
The state requires you to have six hours of class room and two
hours of shooting time. If you took your time the class room portion
could have been completed in an hour. The range time consisted of shooting
50 rounds. It took about 15 minutes

There where 15 simple questions on the test. The instructor read and
answered every question before we took the test. To pass the range
test all you had to do and I quote "You must shoot all 50 rounds
without pointing your gun at or shooting the instructor or another student."
"I would like you to at least hit the target once."

We shot 25 rounds from 3 yards and 25 rounds from 5 yards.

A few of the comments the instructors made today. "Caliber does not
matter at all. I carry a 32 because they are so easy to conceal."

instructor #2 "I dont think anyone under the age of 18 or 19
should be allowed to shoot pistols. Anyone that gives a gun to someone
younger than that should be locked up for 10 years."

"Use common sense, you dont need to carry a gun every day.
Only take it if you think you might need it."

It was a long day but all ended well.

Oh man...what a couple of dip$#its. That's torture listening to that kind of stuff and not saying anything.

Well that makes me feel so much better.

Yeah, because you know ahead of times when and where you're going to be attacked.

I used to think GA needed to have a mandatory class but at least I didn't have to worry about advice like that.

Oh boy, what a bunch of basket cases.

Did they have any certifications? Was this an NRA class or ... ?

Kharn

It was not a NRA class. They where licensed by the state.
This class is required before you apply for your CCW license.
I am pretty green when it comes to guns and I can not think
of anything I learned. Most of the students where REALLY green
and did not seam to notice all of the B.S. I thought I would blow a
gasket before the class was over.

One student asked if it was legal to carry a loaded semi auto pistol
in your truck with out a CCL. The instructor who claimed to be an
LEO could not answer the question.
He said "Do not carry a loaded
semi auto in the truck, It will go off with all of the bouncing around
in the trunk. I guarntee you it will go off, so just dont do it."

That might not be exact quote but it is pretty close.

Is there anyone at the state that you can report these "people" to? How about the Oklahoma State Bureau Of Investigation? (I think they certify instructors in your state). It sounds like they are not just incompetent, but that they are intent on spreading their stupidity around. Really, they could do serious damage with this kind of drivel.

It's pathetic, but can't say I'm surprised. Yesterday I finished teaching the second day of Arizona's 16-hour course. No one had a draw stroke, let alone one from concealment. One student remarked that this was his second renewal. No "instructor" in any of his three classes to date had bothered to show him or any of his fellow classmates how to draw from concealment opting to let them start with weapon in hand. Like I said, it's pathetic.

Did this class, like, cost you money?:) How much?

The instructors just rented the class room and firing range. They are
not associated with the Gun range in any other way.

The class cost $60.00 per person which is the maximum the state allows.
They give you a certificate saying you have complete the semi-auto
saftey and training course. The certificate is required to get your CCW
license.

Maybe the goal is to not teach you anything. That way no one can be held
liable if you screw up. They did covered most everything that was in the materials supplied
by the sate. Most of it was just B.S.
It boils down to the class is just a revenue generator. Just like any other tax.
