I was determined to shoot my new MK9 this past weekend. I told my brother to get in the convertable, I put the top down, and off we went.

I had to first find a range (pay money, gasp) to shoot at since I can't go up to the farm to shoot at milk jugs, dirtballs, and woodchucks anymore. I was going to go to an outdoor range called Alpine which is south of Fort Worth, but my infamous falible sense of direction kicked in, and I somehow ended up downtown.

New plan was to go to an indoor range called On-Target near Wheatland. I'd never been to an indoor range except once at the Purdue Armory. This one had lanes with the cool motorized target moving things, was pretty clean, and the staff answered all my dumb questions. I would definitly recommend it.

This is my brother's first time shooting so I let him borrow my Buckmark and explained how to operate it (the staff gave him the safety lecture). We stapled some of our neon 3-1/2" X 5" index cards to the cardboard and let the machine zip them out to 7 yards.

I watch him shoot 10 rounds first, he puts 4/10 on the card. I explained to him that he needs to squeeze the trigger evenly instead of just jerking it back. Next mag he gets all 10 on the card, so I go to my lane while he is reloading.

In case any of you weren't aware of this, there is a lot more kick out of a 9mm than a .22. It's a good thing I was aiming at one of the lower targets or I might have put that round in the moving mechanism. The slide bit my thumb too. Ouch.

Now that I am over the recoil surpise and know what to expect, I take aim at a card and try to put the remaining five rounds in it. No luck, so I pull the target in to 3 yards. Seven shots, no holes in card. I start to panic a bit because I am not going to be able to pass the CCW test if I can't even hit anything at 3 yards.

I pull my target in and staple index cards in a 3X4 rectangle and send it back out to 7 yards. I take aim at the middle and find out that I am hitting about 6"-8" below where I am aiming and in a vertical line.
:cuss:

I staple two fresh cards up and send it back out to 7 yards. I load my last 13 rounds and miss my first shot, again. My brother lets go a flyer and I remind him not to jerk the trigger.

Magic revelation --> (Hmmm...squeeze trigger gently and evenly...perhaps this will work for me too...maybe I should follow my own advice.)

Attached are my cards from my 6rnd and my 7rnd magazines. I feel much better now. :D
