I don't have a 45 anymore; thats something I regret.

In the past, I have owned the Glock 30, Springfield G.I. stainless, and Ruger P345. I ended up trading them all away on one thing or another.

I want to buy another 45, on a budget of $600. The only preference that i have is that it be under that $600 mark, have commonly available magazines, be stainless, and be very durable.

I was trying to find a budget 1911, but the Springfield Stainless Milspec starts at $700. :(

Additionally, I was giving a long hard look to the Rugers. I liked the P-345, so i may like to have that or the P90 instead of a cheap 1911.
 
I voted for the 4566; a very close second is the P90. Both are strong pistols with a good reputation. And, unlike a Glock, you can run lead through it.
 
I bought a S&W 645 trade-in for $379. A tank, and will eat anything fed to it.

I voted for the "Budget" category:eek:...strictly because of the fine Norincos or 1928 Argentines you may be fortunate enough to run across.

Have you considered a used Sig P220 in some form or fashion? Remember, every firearm is used after the first round is shoved through it.
 
I voted for the S+W 4566. Another option you may want to consider is the 4506, slightly larger. I recently "discovered" S+W autos when I decided to get a 9mm after 6 years or so of .45 1911's only for autos. I started with a 3913 then added a 6906. A 4566 or 4506 may be in my future as well. The 4566 is mentioned less than the 4506 on the various boards, but as far as the 4506 goes, it's extremely rare to find negative comments. The only universal knock against them is size/weight but if you're considering the 4566 or a 1911, I'm assuming that's not an issue for you. They get high marks for reliability and accuracy.

I find the S+W's to be generally undervalued vs. others in the marketplace. I tend to buy used and recently spotted 2 4506's at a local shop. Both appeared in similar condition, with one each of the round-grip backstrap and straight-grip backstrap. (If i were to get one I would buy the other grip and just see which I prefer through actual handling/shooting.) Price was $399 on each. I'd guess you could not find a used Sig or HK in .45 at that price. Possibly a used Glock and/or CZ .45 around the same number and an older Ruger P90 probably a little cheaper. (I'm not very familiar with the newer Ruger.) There are a few 1911's out there you can get for your $600 and probably used versions of those for the price of the S+W's.

With your budget of $600 you could get into a used S+W .45 and add a decent holster, extra mags and some ammo or ammo components if you reload.
 
I don't like conventional double action in a semi-auto, so I'd go with the M1911.

I regularly carry a full size Norinco M1911. The Rock Island guns have a good reputation, both for the guns themselves and the customer service. When I get back to work, I plan to purchase a nickel .38 Super RIA.
 
I voted for the budget 1911 just in case you would come across a stainless one in your price range. I'm not sure if you've held the 4566 or P90 in your hand yet, but if you like their ergonomics, you may want to pick either one of those up. You already know what the others were like, yet they weren't good enough for you to want to keep them. You'd probably be best off picking from the ones you haven't had yet.
 
Go to the CDNN website and get on their catalog list. Have guns purchased delivered to your local FFL dealer.

CDNN is a broker for police pistols turned in when the departments re-arm. The police guns I've seen have holster wear, but are otherwise in excellent condition...obviously little fired...and are dirt cheap. Lots of S&W and Ruger models available.

They also sell imports cheaply...I just picked up a CZ-40 new for about $325 (paid for it over the phone by credit card, so I forget the exact price!).
 
Budget 1911

My vote is for the Taurus Stainless 1911. Very Dependable, Rock Solid and Accurate as Hell.

If you prefer not to go the 1911 Route. I would get the Relatively New Taurus PT845. I bought one a month ago at Cabela's Stainless Version for 549.00. This is a Hammer Fired Pistol that has been Awesome so far. Will eat Anything you Feed it and Accuracy is Excellent. Great Defensive .45 as Rapid Fire, Double hits, Triple hits come Easy with this Gun:evil: One Of my Best Purchases. Reminds me of my XD-M's because it is a Solidly built Weapon.

I voted S&W police trade in.

But, if'n ya don't mind plastic, the majority of the polymer guns cost the same or less than even the budget Taurus 1911. So I think you really need to decide what you're gonna spend and make a decision from there - some suggestions:

1. $400 or less: (used) S&W police trade-in, Norinco 1911, etc.
2. $500 or less: Taurus 24/7 OSS - DS, Rock Island 1911, or similar
3. $600 or less: XD, Taurus 1911, CZ 97B, etc.
4. $700 or so: Springfield Milspec, Sig P220, etc.
 
you could probobly find a springer mil-spec (parkerized) around the $600 mark if you looked. Last time I checked you could anyways.
