Finding Brass: Does Anyone Else get a Little High

I am also like that. Nothing better than free brass. If you want free brass join a club. Every match that I RO I come away with at least 2,000 cases mixed 9mm, 40 and 45 auto.

I shoot at an older indoor range where they are tired of sweeping up brass. They're glad to have you pick up anything you want, just as long as they don't have to do all that sweeping. Even though a lot of my brass is lost going forward of the firing line, it's still a treat to come home with more than I left with!

1st. I'll not tell you where I shoot. Don't even ask. 2nd. I hate reloaders. They actually pick up their brass. They'll even pick up MY brass before I get there.
I went to the range Sunday. It had snowed several times since my last trip the week before. The range buckets had filled partially with snow. I, of course, emptied the snow out of the buckets. In the course of this, I retrieved several hundred .223, 50 or so 9MM, 50 or so .40 S&W, 50 or so 38 Spl., about 75 5.7x28 and a couple each of 30-30, .243, .308 and a small handful of 45 Auto.
I started shooting there in August and have a 5 gallon bucket of 9MM half full already. I have picked up WSM's, 45-70, 30 carbine, 270, 30-06, 7.62x39, 32 S&W, 25 Auto, tons of 357 Sig, 7.62x25, 7.62x54, 7RM and even a few .458 WM.
I'm very displeased if I don't bring back at least 100 extras every visit.

Sick. Sick sicko nut.

I tend to bring back the midwayusa range bag full. Matter of fact I'm on my 2nd one because I wore out all the stitchings and seams in year 1 with the first. Indoor range, buddies work/own it, carpeted, allows everything up to 30-06 power level on the 50-yd side.

My wife, I think, is ashamed of me at this point because I never get tired of collecting more. Constantly trading, reloading and of course shooting it! She doesn't appreciate all the extra shooting time she gets because I'd rather sit in the back and giggle while pecking through buckets :D

Sharpsdressedman, you and I must share the same dna. I have this unnatural thing for picking up brass. I have Thousands and I mean in the high tens to hundred thousand of brass casings. Even in calibers that I don't reload for. I picked up 38 spec, 9mm, 223 rem and 3030s out of the snow on my way home from work today. Not at a range, but a sandpit.

Well you probably don't have it too bad until you start buying guns to match the brass you find at the range.

I resemble this remark. I collected so much 40S&W brass that I bought 2 pistols, loading press, molds and sizer dies to match.

During the past year, due to the rush to get CCW certified, our range was so busy that I had a field day in cleaning the range of brass. I have 50 cal ammo cans full of once fired brass to last me quite some time.

I've been known to stop at ranges and shooting holes in the middle of the night, when I'm passing by, and gather brass in the dark with a flashlight. Even though I already have more buckets full than I'll ever get loaded. It's a damn disease, I tell ya! Just like picking up dozens of nickles to me.

Here's a good tip - take an empty 1-gallon jug (I prefer the windshield washer fluid jugs, they're stronger), and cut the top out with a razor knife. I cut out the neck area, to about the size of my fist, but be sure to leave all the handle intact. This makes a wonderful brass gathering jug, it's easy to carry, holds a lot, and easy to dump. You can also use it for washing the brass up with if you want.

Greetings,

For those of you that have more than they need, you can sell it, or better, do like me and give it to someone (preferably not voting Democrats... :D) that needs it.

Or you can try to make some trading. I would "kill" to be able to exchange a bunch of rifle calibers I don't reload or pistol calibers I have too much for the calibers I shot and that I am in needs...:banghead:

Thank you

You are not seriously a brass junkie unless you have multiple 5gal buckets in each cal.:D I have several dozzen stacked 4 high (when full, higher will cave in cover of bottom bucket). Also it is way easier to get a couple thousand of the same headstamp to reload for consistant results/accuracy. This is the only silver lining to the primer shortage that I can see, LOTS O BRASS.:D

I knew this topic needed started. I went to the range again today, just to chrony some 7.62x39 soft point loads, and found about 70-80 nice once fired Win .45, and about 50 RP 9mm. It's like picking up nickels! Along the subject of picking up brass, I have also rewarded the matches I shoot at where they won't let you pick up your OWN brass by shooting Blazer.

I get high, I save just about everything. Either I will use it or somebody I know would love to have it. I once found some empty .45 Colt shells (a very small quantity, maybe 26 or 27) and used it as an excuse to buy a Ruger Blackhawk so I could actually use them.
