I have enough trouble finding my glasses when there is enough ambient light. I have one of these Traser glowings I'm going to place by my glasses in the dark. If you're good about being consistent, finding clothes and weapons aren't hard but for us four-eyes, the glowring is handy.

I TRY to put my glasses in the same place all the time but still end up having to feel around for them in the dark.

Can you guys find all your stuff in the dark?

C. R. Sam

Perp: Officer, there I was mistakenly in this house that is not mine when this naked man attacked me with a gun! :uhoh:

I have a street light right across the street from my window. 940 tween mattress and boxspring. Mod 13 in carry bag below that on the floor and clothes hanging on clothes tree next to dresser. Even though I can see everywhere in my house cause of street lights I still practice walking around with my eyes closed because the badguy might have his own surefire.

This is kind of like learning to field strip a 1911 or M16 with your eyes closed. could do it and put back to gether in no time.
Weapons....yes.
Clothes.....who cares.
Thinking about a naked skinny Santa Claus, C. R. Sam, with an N frame in each hand :what: about gives me the willies, kind of like picturing your parents having sex or a rather large person in a thong. eeeeeeeeeeewwwwww yeck!:D

An armed and naked CR Sam...

There's a mental image I'll need to get rid of with an ice pick!

All humor aside, quite frankly, I agree with Sam. In a self-defense situation, clothes should be the least of your worries.

Clothes = more places to put stuff. I have two hands, armpits and a mouth to put things. Well more, but :uhoh:

Those "Traser" key-rings are huge tritium capsules, compared to night sights for pistols, similar to the "betalight" of SAS handbook fame. Mondo cool. And actually pretty safe since that tritium is still lighter than air, and only a beta emitter to boot. If you willfully smashed the capsule, the gas would rocket to the ceiling just like helium, and the beta emissions are just electrons blocked by mere paper, cloth, or skin.

Unfortunately DOE regs probably make bringing those in from England a vitrual impossibility. :(

I have had time to learn it.
In the military, it was instilled by dicipline and enforced by severe punishment. One minute to be ready - dressed , any time.

Now I have night sights on my gun and a hi-cap mag in it. During the frequent black-outs where I live, I depend on the same discipline to put things in one place, and one place only. The nite sites help to find my gun at the bump in the night.

One gun, one condition it is in, one place to put it and all its accessories.
Clothes...?

one minute to be dressed is way to long, I could be in my house and upstairs and in my bed room with 3 handguns in that time.

Threat outside in cold of winter but BADGUY coming in the front door, one minute way to long.

ok glowing glasses... cool..

BUT what about the target indicator aspect of wearing those things? BG says, ok, I aim at the glowing head...

I mean the light on my watch will light my way through my house. Those things on your head are gonna be a beacon.

Cant find your glasses on the night stand? Afraid you will knock them into the floor or something? Why not just put a loop of string on the bed post and hang the glasses on that string. They will always be right beside the pillow. Then when you hear the bump in the night, you can just reach over to the string and get your glasses off of it. No bed post, well, if you have an alarm clock on a night stand that displays glowing numbers, just put your glasses laying folded up right in front of the clock face. You will still be able to read the numbers and if there is that bump .. you can just reach over to the glowing clock and immediately find the glasses.

Just some thoughts..

Figure out where you could put them that you would be able to find them in the dark and then always put them in the same place relative to where you sleep. That way even if you spend the night at a friends house and awaken in orange, it will still be the same movement to retrieve your weapon or skivvies.

The Trijicons make for great landmarks in the dark! My Surefire is next to that & my glasses are next to my glowing clock. There is enough light to see & grab what I need in the dark.
Getting clothes on isn't a problem either. Sleep in sweats :neener:

House-clearing in the nude mght be good for movies but isn't practical. Too easy to get hurt (stubbed toes, flesh burns, etc.). That said, the muzzle will get more attention from the perp than any pendilous or dangling bits.

I have a suggestion for you. I have a small LED flashlight. It operates on a regular 9v battery. It is about the same size as the 9v battery!

Here's the good part.... the flashlight is ALWAYS on. It provides a small amount of light that lasts for years on a SINGLE battery (yes, years... and mine has done that already!)

I leave it on "low" and place it so that it's beam illuminates the handle of my revolver (as well as my glasses). It's easy to take with you to hotels, etc.

Press the switch once and the beam gets much brighter, press again and it's brighter still. It's rubberized and the vendor was bouncing one off a concrete floor when I bought mine.

Unfortunately, I bought mine at a computer show a while back and now don't know where to buy more. If anyone knows where I can find another one of these, let me know.

(They also fit in mag holders so I can carry it at night along with my gun until I get one of those REALLY bright lights!)

Agree.
I'm in an apt, I wear bifocals which are on the dresser some steps away from foot of bed. The reality is if someone crashes my front door there will be no time to get dressed. I do shoot without my glasses often. There is enough ambient light. I also still practice with guns without any sights, the way I was taught. I also have 'shooting lanes" though not much room in this apt, I have them. House clearing...there won't be any here due to apt size.

When I had a house, I also had shooting lanes. In fact when I built a house I on purpose used ( insisted) on 2x6s and 2x8s ( upgraded from norm specs) so I could , to some degree, lessen the effects of bullets going through walls. I used what I learned from shooting bldg. materials in this planning. I had materials placed in b/t walls , in other words.

My eyes at that time I only rarely used my glasses, same for the Mrs. Plan was , since we each had a firearm, I would cover while she called 911, tripped the signal I had b/t me and ex LEO neighbor , dress (somewhat), then I'd get clothes. Neither of us wore anything to bed. I had no ambient light as no street lights had been bulit yet in a new platt. I therefore used plug in lights similar to waht theatres use, the kitchen vent-a-hood light and some small "decorative" lamps to highlight BG, but not us. The kid was to drop to a safe spot, and "hug it". His room b/t heavy furniture and what I did to walls, hopefully, would protect him.

There were guns in special places around the house in the event the power went out, like I said we had no ambient light, so if , either power went out by accident or cut on purpose, that's what the batt emergency lights were for. Say while dressed , and reading, TV, Cooking ...etc., at 7 pm and its already dark outside.

I bought 5 used model 10 police trade ins specifically for this purpose and 10 speedloaders, 2 for each gun. Mini mags with each gun. Remotes to trip signal to neighbor...he had a signal to alert us. Also one 1100 20 ga, one Beretta 303 20 ga ( her preferences) and 2 pump guns for me ( 37 and 870 ) in 12ga "hidden" in the house. This was just extra stuff in case of an emergency.

Me and family prone to kidnapping , at the time...so I took some steps.

Nope, not problem, have/had a plan, and a back up and another...

The glowrings are cool, but unlawful to import.:( Of course, no one ever seems to check te strangely glowing packages that my buddy keeps getting from Ireland.:)

Lasik Surgery: Be forewarned, can be a very bad thing if you intend to engage in fisticuffs on a regular basis (like weekly training sessions, etc). Up to a year after the surgery, there is a tendency for the cornea to detach when engaged in vigorous activity. [This is second hand information. My Pekiti Tirsia instructor was investigating having Lasik to correct his vision and this was one of the things that came out in meetings with the docs involved.]

Clothes.....who cares.

Oh, Sam! It's for the children, Sam! It's for the children!

I like a shoulder rig for night use. Not the best for CCW? Okay, but it's pretty handy at night. You can toss it on quickly and have weapon and a spare mags ready to hand.

My house is never dark enough to need tritium on my glasses. Children = night lights.

Mmmmm, Siu Skunk, your gun fu grows strong. Remember as the abbot says, even the tiger must sleep, but the old tiger sleeps in the bamboo forest so that he may hear the threat approaching and become an ancient tiger.

The purpose of outer defenses is to channel the attack and alert you to the danger so that you may counterattack. How are your outer defenses?

Have you done your Clear to Orange drills blindfolded yet?

My Vertec and my glasses both sit between the bright green display on my alarm clock and the bright green light from my cell phone charger, which are in turn behind the pillows of our bed.

While putting stuff in the same place every night is hugely better than not putting stuff in the same place, the reason why folks like Skunk have troubles finding their gear (such as their glasses) is that while the gear has been stationary, the person has not. On waking, the person will attempt to move to retrieve said items based on that person's position when the items were placed (assuming the person was in bed when the items were placed). Since the person is not in the same place, the perceived position of the items needed will seem to have changed. In short, the relative positions of the items to the human have changed.

Y'all are poking fun at naked CR Sam, but you gotta figure that the burglar may or may not see CR Sam's gun, but they certainly will see the naked body and no doubt have stimulated memories of "Deliverance," dueling banjos, and squealing like a pig. How does the saying go? "This is my weapon and this is my gun. This one is for fighting and this one is for fun."

Has anyone else noticed that reholstering while naked is a lot harder than you might have thought?

El T, I can never tell when you're joking or not

C00l9mm, my alarm clock is across the room. I had this dream last night there was this bomb I had to disarm and it was beeping like in the movies and even had the amount of time it had left on it. It said something like 5 minutes and 30 seconds. I disarmed it and brought it back to where my two-tone Honda Crisis Response Vehicle was, set it there and took a nap. The bomb kept on re-arming itself again, but it kept saying I had more and more time left...like 5 minutes and 38 seconds....then after I disarmed it it would say 5 minutes and 46 seconds....funny thing is I woke up, my alarm clock wasn't where I left it, and I had 15 minutes to get ready and drive to work :uhoh:

DNS, you're right on...Last night was even worse because I had to move the matress because I hosed the room with ant nerve gas. But I toss around a lot even before I fall asleep. Everything is always in its place but I'm not.
