I am trying to complete my packet for a out of state ccw from Florida. I have recieved the packet and my question is regarding the fingerprinting. How do i get it done by local law enforcement do I just walk in and ask or is there a process. I know this might vary from state to state and agency to agency but I would like to know how others got it done.

I needed to get fingerprinted for a security clearance, I just went to the local sheriff's office and asked, they gladly obliged.

It shouldn't be a problem for you either.

Call your local PD and Sheriff's office. They will let you know who handles it (usually it is the Sheriff's office), what ID they require and what special hours the finger print counter/unit may be open. Some charge up to about $40 for it, other places less or none if it is for another LE agency's use/requirements.

Also I am active duty in Cali but my home of record is in Texas will gettin finger printed in a state other the my home of record get my application rejected? I know there are lots of minor reasons an application can be rejected and wanna get it all done right the first time. Thanks for all the input so far.

I don't think getting fingerprinted outside of your home state will be a problem. When I read through the requirements for my Florida CCW, they only specified that the applicant be printed by a law enforcement agency.

I got my prints taken at the local highway patrol headquarters. They were totally cool about it. In and out, two sets of prints, very professional, no charge.

If you can, I'd recommend sending in two cards. If one's screwed up, they can fall back on the other. Most of the rejections/delays I've read about are on account of unreadable prints.

Here it is done electronically (you stick your paws down on a flatbed scanner type thing). You'd probably need to call the agency in Florida that receives those and ask what they need.

Call the Sheriff --

Some require that you set up an appointment. Some do it when you walk through the door. And it doesn't much matter which state it is, or which county. It's pretty much according to who's Sheriff and how they want to manage the work load.

If access at one facility sounds "stiff" -- ask if you can do it somewhere else.

The local LEA will most likly life scan you. Its not cheap, and it can only be sent to 1 agency... Its the finger print system CA uses for just about every thing. I have it done on myself a couple times a year for diffrent reasons( mainly schools/ kids progarms) I also use it for my employees.

Do be sure to call ahead.... our department used to print only at weird times, like 10 to noon on alternating Tuesdays when the moon was full. Just to be obstructive.

Any law enforcement office can and likely will do this. Many licenses or applications require fingerprints so it's not at all unusual for people to walk in with this request. They may charge a small fee like $10-$20.

Makes me wonder how many times I have been fingerprinted. Twice for carry permit applications; once for a license to sell alcoholic beverages; twice for FFL applications; three times for teaching certificate applications. I feel like I am forgetting some...

Unrelated to your CCW application, if you had previously been fingerprinted in CA and later committed a crime in Florida, I guarantee they would have allowed those prints as evidence to identify and convict you. A REASONABLE person would allow them on application for CCW. But we're talking about REASON and BUREAUCRACY in the same sentence, and that doesn't always work.
