Well my flattop riser finally got here today so I've finished the new baby, I think this will be perfect for hog hunting.

It's a DPMS lower, Ace stock, Alexander Arms upper in .50 Beowulf, Tapco riser and Tasco Pro Point. I'll get out to shoot it this weekend to see how she does. Next up will be a trigger, the stock DPMS unit I bought is just pitiful, long and creepy. It easily holds 7 down in a standard 20 round .223 mag, and supposedly 11 or 12 in a 30 round mag.

Nice rig. Ought to be great for gettin in amongst 'em. How is the bullet selection for the .50BW?

Regards,
hps

Bullet selection isn't great, but there are 5 or 6 factory loads available and maybe 8-9 bullets I've found for it for reloading. It's definately a reloading proposition, current factory ammo runs over a buck a shot for the cheapest load.

Kinda figured that would be the case. What weight bullet you leaning toward and what velocities do you expect?

Factory loads are around 1800-1900 FPS wiith bullet weights of 400 and 325 grains. I'm going to try a Barnes lightweight bullet (I think it's around 275 grains) that I should be able to get around 2000-2100 FPS, but I won't make a final decision until I see what it likes best. Since I'm going to limit it to around 125 yards for pig hunting I think the lighter bullets (like the 325 gr. hollowpoint) should work pretty well. They have Speer Gold Dots and Hornady XTP's available in a true .500" bullet that should be ok for my application.
